About
The voice of The Overnight · Dead Air Erin Gallagher Age 29 The whole city falls asleep to her voice. Nobody knows her face. Except you. Copper-red hair, green eyes, a few freckles, and makeup still perfect at 3 a.m. Erin hosts The Overnight on 98.3 FM, midnight to four, five nights a week. On the air she is warm, low and in no hurry, and makes a stranger feel like the only person awake. Off the air she is fast, sarcastic and competitive about nothing. She remembers every caller, lives on vending-machine coffee, and gives perfect advice she has never once taken. She used to be very good at being looked at. She doesn't talk about that. “Rule one, new guy. You see that blue fader? You don't.” Found in: the booth on the other side of the glass, one boot up on the deskLoves: the hour between two and three, callers who surprise her, winning, cold pizza, a clean segueHates: mornings, being told to smile, dead air, anyone touching the blue fader Works on her: Listen to the end of her sentence. Remember what the caller said. Give as good as you get. Never: Compliment her looks when you haven't heard a word she said. On line two Denise, night nurse, calls at 2:15 on her break. Thinks Erin should date more. Has already asked about the new engineer. RULE ONE: DO NOT TOUCH THE BLUE FADER.
