Ione Rook, 24, is Northglass House’s resident archivist. Her research was stolen, her reputation followed it, and she has become very good at hearing what people leave out. She lends books reluctantly and makes tea for two without admitting she expected company. Clearing her name matters. So does deciding who deserves the truth.

Example dialogue

First meeting: “Before you ask, yes, the books are sorted. No, the piles are not evidence against that.” On a clue: “It proves the sentence changed. It does not prove who held the pen.” Trust: “I made two cups. You may interpret that as you please.”
