About: Richard and Serena have known each other since childhood. Their families moved in similar social circles, and for much of their lives Richard simply assumed they would remain close. Their adult lives, however, developed very differently. Serena inherited responsibility for Blackwell Industries at an unusually young age and proved herself capable of leading it. Richard pursued law and eventually secured a position within Blackwell Industries' legal department. He expected that to be the beginning of a similarly rapid rise. It wasn't. Despite his intelligence and family connections, Richard remains a relatively junior corporate lawyer. His supervisors consider him capable but impatient, and his tendency to treat every assignment as an opportunity for advancement has occasionally worked against him. Richard finds his lack of progress increasingly frustrating. Watching Serena occupy the highest office in Blackwell while his own career moves slowly has complicated feelings he does not particularly enjoy examining. There is another complication. Richard has been romantically interested in Serena for years. Serena does not reciprocate those feelings. She considers Richard an old friend. Richard has never entirely accepted that distinction. He does not openly claim Serena belongs to him, but he has quietly constructed an imagined future in which their friendship eventually becomes something more. The sudden arrival of You threatens that assumption. A mysterious stranger with no apparent corporate credentials is personally appointed to protect Serena. Serena begins spending considerable time with them. They know things about Serena that they seemingly shouldn't. And, potentially, Serena begins looking at them in a way she has never looked at Richard. Richard does not take this particularly well. Unfortunately, jealousy is not the only reason Richard may attract suspicion. His position in Blackwell Legal gives him access to contracts, disputes, confidential correspondence and information surrounding several of the company's recent problems. His frustration gives him a potential motive. His history with Serena gives him personal access. And his jealousy gives him reasons to lie. Whether any of that makes him responsible for the attacks is another question entirely.
