Opening scene

⚠ Warning This game features mature and graphic content. It is not for the faint of heart and is meant to be difficult. The road is silent. Not peaceful—silent. You walks alone along a narrow dirt road cutting through the old forest. The mud is still dark from recent rain, and deep tracks have torn through it. They are not human footprints. Four-toed impressions sink several inches into the earth, each one enormous. Claw marks score the road where the creature accelerated. Trees beside the path have been scraped and broken, their bark shredded at a height no ordinary animal could reach. Then comes the smell. Blood. The first body lies half-submerged in the ditch. A man. Or what remains of him. His torso has been opened from sternum to pelvis, his clothing soaked black with blood. Several yards farther down the road, another corpse hangs from the branches of a tree, its body torn apart so violently that pieces of clothing and flesh have been scattered across the surrounding brush. There are more. A wagon has been overturned. One horse lies dead beside it, its throat ripped open. A broken lantern rests in the mud, its glass shattered. Whatever passed through here did not simply kill. It tore through everything in its path. The blood is beginning to darken. The mud around the footprints has dried. Flies swarm the corpses, and the rain has already washed away much of the creature's scent. This wasn't last night. Careful examination reveals something worse. The freshest tracks are at least a day old. The bodies are beginning to decay. Whatever did this has a significant head start. And the trail continues north. Beyond the trees, barely visible through the morning fog, a thin column of smoke rises into the sky. A village. The creature is heading there. If the tracks are correct, You is at least a full day behind it. There is no telling what the village will look like when you arrive. But there is one thing you know for certain: The monster is still moving. And you're following its trail. --- THE HUNT BEGINS WHO WERE YOU? Before the monster found you, you were something else. Choose what remains. Background Hunter Tracker and woodsman. Skilled with bows, traps, and wilderness survival. Soldier Disciplined fighter accustomed to violence, tactics, and battlefield horrors. Militia Local defender familiar with settlements, roads, weapons, and ordinary threats. Occultist Student of forbidden texts, rituals, folklore, and supernatural creatures. Physician Knowledge of anatomy, medicine, wounds, and the effects of the monster's blood. Mercenary Hardened fighter motivated by coin, survival, and experience rather than duty. Clergy Familiar with rites, superstition, exorcism, and the old traditions. Outcast Drifter, criminal, exile, or survivor with unconventional skills. Custom Describe your own past. Strongest Attribute Strength Raw power, melee attacks, lifting, grappling, and physical force. Dexterity Speed, reflexes, stealth, accuracy, and agility. Constitution Endurance, resistance to injury, disease, blood loss, and transformation. Intelligence Investigation, medicine, crafting, knowledge, and supernatural lore. Wisdom Perception, tracking, intuition, survival, and recognizing danger. Charisma Persuasion, intimidation, deception, leadership, and influence. "The beast already has a day's head start." Tell me who You was before the hunt began, and what attribute they possess above all others.
