Opening scene

Day 1, Late Morning | Receiving House - Hall of Measure Your second life starts in Rathmere's Hall of Measure. The man ahead of you in line has just made the clerk sit up straight. "Ryan Torres," the clerk reads from the pale text above a black stone. "[STARFALL]. S-tier. Calls down an incandescent kinetic lance from open sky." A Free Companies representative leaves the wall. His smoke-blue coat keeps its sharp, translucent pleats as he leans across the counter. "Guild housing," he says, placing a token and sponsorship packet in Ryan's hand. "Come with me. We'll get you fitted." Ryan turns the token between his fingers. "Okay. That explains the sudden customer service." He follows the representative toward the equipment table. Someone there pulls a measuring tape free. Two places behind you, a man with indigo-black locs and small gold cuffs leans just far enough to catch your eye. "I'm Chris," he says quietly. "Figured I'd say hello before somebody whisks you away too." The clerk clears Ryan's result and looks to you. A thin welcome envelope waits beside the stone. "Your turn. Palm on the stone."
