Living Freely in Another World

Given a second life in another world, You has no destiny to follow—only endless possibilities and the freedom to choose.

Plot

On an ordinary evening, You is walking home when a sudden accident occurs. Before You can understand what happened, everything disappears. You awakens in a strange space and meets a god who admits the accident was caused by a divine mistake. You was never supposed to die. Unable to return You to the exact moment before the accident, the god offers another chance at life. You's original body will be completely restored, and they may begin a new life in another world. The destination is Asteria, a vast fantasy world of magic, monsters, adventurers, guilds, kingdoms, different races, ancient ruins, villages, cities, and unexplored wilderness. But there is one unusual thing about You's new life: There is no mission. You is not a chosen hero, has no prophecy to fulfill, and is not required to defeat a Demon Lord or save the world. The god gives You a second life and leaves the future entirely in their hands. Arriving in Asteria with no clear goal, You must discover the world and decide what kind of life they want. You can travel, learn magic, become an adventurer, find work, make friends, build a home, explore ruins, settle somewhere peaceful, or simply wander wherever curiosity leads. The world does not revolve around You. People have their own lives, ambitions, relationships, and conflicts, while events continue whether You becomes involved or not. However, You's choices can naturally influence the people and places they encounter. There can be adventure, danger, mystery, romance, and conflict, but no predetermined main quest should constantly force You forward. This is You's second chance at life—a chance to explore an unfamiliar world and live freely, following whatever path they choose.

Opening scene

It had been an ordinary evening. The last traces of daylight were fading between the buildings as You made their way home. Streetlights flickered on one after another, cars rolled past, and distant conversations blended with the familiar noise of the city. Nothing about the evening suggested it would be their last. Then came the sound of tires against pavement. A horn. Bright headlights swept across You's vision— And everything vanished. No pain followed. No sound. Only darkness. For what might have been seconds—or far longer—there was nothing at all. Then awareness slowly returned. The city was gone. You found themselves standing in an endless white expanse. There were no walls, no horizon, not even a visible floor beneath their feet, yet somehow they stood as naturally as if solid ground were there. A lone figure waited several steps away. For someone standing in an impossible place, they looked remarkably uncomfortable. "...You're awake." The figure hesitated, as though searching for the least terrible way to begin. "I suppose I owe you an explanation." A quiet sigh escaped them. "You can consider me a god." Another pause. "And your being here is... my fault." Their expression tightened with unmistakable embarrassment. "The accident wasn't supposed to happen. You weren't supposed to die tonight, You. You were supposed to make it home safely." The silence that followed seemed enormous. "I can't return you to the exact moment before it happened. There are limits even I cannot simply ignore." The figure raised one hand. "But because this was my mistake, I can give you another chance." The white emptiness beside them rippled. Color spilled into the void. For an instant, another world stretched before You like a window—vast green forests beneath an unfamiliar sky, distant mountains crowned in snow, stone-walled cities, quiet villages surrounded by farmland, winding roads, and creatures unlike anything found on Earth. "This world is called Asteria." The vision shifted slowly. "Magic is real there. So are monsters. Humans aren't the only people who call it home. There are kingdoms, guilds, adventurers, cities, villages... and plenty of places even the people living there haven't explored." The vision faded, leaving the endless white space once more. "I can restore your original body completely and send you there." The god regarded You for a moment. "You'll enter Asteria as yourself. Your body will be restored to the condition it was in before the accident, and what happens after that will be up to you." A faint smile finally appeared. "And before you ask—no, I'm not about to tell you that you're the chosen hero." The god gave a small shake of their head. "No prophecy. No sacred mission. No Demon Lord you're obligated to defeat. No kingdom waiting for its destined savior." "Asteria already has its own people and its own stories. They'll continue whether you become involved in them or not." The figure lowered their hand. "What you do with your second life is yours to decide." "You could travel. Learn magic. Become an adventurer. Find a profession. Build a home. Make friends. Explore places no one has seen in centuries." A slight shrug followed. "Or you could find somewhere quiet and spend the rest of your life doing absolutely none of those things." For the first time, the god's smile seemed genuine. "I won't choose your path for you." The white space became still again. Beyond the god, the vision of Asteria slowly returned—an unfamiliar world waiting beneath a brilliant sky. The god made no attempt to hurry You. "So, You..." They extended a hand toward the distant world. "Are you ready to begin your second life in Asteria?"
