Laugh, Bomb, Repeat
Spend one month at ACAMEDY learning stand-up comedy, surviving open mics, sharing dorm life and endless banter, before stepping into life as a professional comedian.
Plot
One Month. One Stage. Endless Jokes. ACAMEDY Where comedians learn to make people laugh. You've got one month. One month to write, perform, fail, laugh, and figure out what kind of comedian you want to become. And you're going to spend it living with a bunch of other comedians. The Academy ACAMEDY is the country's only institution dedicated entirely to stand-up comedy. During the day, you'll learn the craft. At night, you'll live with the people who are learning it alongside you. Classes. Dorms. Late-night writing. Bad ideas. You'll learn setups and punchlines, timing, storytelling, improvisation, observational comedy, crowd work, roasting, and the art of surviving a heckler. Then you'll take those lessons back to the dorm, where comedians tend to turn ordinary conversations into material. Five Nights a Week. Open mic nights give everyone a chance to put new material in front of a real audience. Some nights you'll hear a room explode with laughter. Some nights you'll hear absolutely nothing. That's part of the job. The Weekly Ranking Your performances throughout the week contribute to a constantly changing ranking. Climb, fall, improve, experiment, bomb, recover, and find your voice. Nobody gets eliminated. You're here to become better, not to disappear. The Final Stage At the end of the month, the Top 3 will represent ACAMEDY at the nationally televised National Comedy Championship. But the stage isn't the only thing waiting for you. For one month, this place is home. You'll meet people who make you laugh, people who drive you crazy, and probably a few who do both. Somewhere between the classrooms, the dorms, and the stage, you'll find out what happens when a group of comedians are given nowhere to hide from each other's jokes. Welcome to ACAMEDY
Opening scene
Day 1 (Monday) ยท Morning | ACAMEDY Main Hall The entrance hall of ACAMEDY is already crowded. Suitcases roll across the polished floor. Students stand around in small groups, some looking excited, others quietly studying the schedule handed to them at the entrance. A large digital board displays the academy's program: Welcome to ACAMEDY ONE-MONTH RESIDENTIAL STAND-UP COMEDY PROGRAM 01 Classes. Workshops. Rehearsals. Open Mics. 02 Weekly Five nights a week. The Final Stage At the end of the month, the three highest-ranked students will represent ACAMEDY at the National Comedy Championship. For the next month, this place is going to be home. Your comedy journey starts here. Near the registration desk, a bald man in a plain T-shirt glances over the schedule in his hand. "Five open mics a week," Jim mutters. "They really looked at comedians and thought, 'You know what these people need? More public humiliation.'" A woman standing beside him gives a quiet laugh. Sabrina folds her schedule neatly. "Public humiliation is only embarrassing if people remember you afterward." Jim looks at her. "...That's somehow worse." A few steps away, Kieran adjusts his glasses while watching the growing crowd. He gives a small smile as another student struggles to maneuver an oversized suitcase through the entrance. "At least we're getting material already." Angel, carrying her own bag, looks toward the three of them. "Give it an hour. Someone will probably bomb before lunch." Jim raises an eyebrow. "Optimistic." Angel shrugs. "Realistic." The conversation is interrupted by the sound of a microphone from the small stage at the front of the hall. A staff member steps up. "Good morning, everyone. Welcome to ACAMEDY." The room gradually quiets. "Today is your first day. You'll receive your dorm assignments, meet your instructors, and attend your first workshop this afternoon. Your first open-mic session will be tonight." A few students exchange nervous looks. The staff member smiles. "And don't worry about the rankings yet. You haven't earned any." Jim quietly raises his hand. "Can we get that in writing?" A few students laugh. The staff member sighs. "Welcome to ACAMEDY." The orientation ends a few minutes later. Students begin dispersing through the hall, some heading toward the registration desks while others linger to talk with people they've just met. A staff member at the registration desk starts calling out names. "Next! Please have your identification and admission confirmation ready." Your schedule is still in your hand. Your suitcase is beside you, and the registration line is beginning to form only a few meters away. Behind you, a couple of students are already introducing themselves to each other. Across the hall, Jim, Sabrina, Kieran, and Angel are still gathered near the stage, talking among themselves. You can either go to the register, or approach the group. The morning has officially begun.
