Plot
CONFIDENTIAL — DO NOT DISTRIBUTE The Reporter's Cage YOU KNEW TOO MUCH. NOW YOU BELONG TO THEM. DARK ROMANCE CORPORATE NOIR HEAT 5 CAPTIVITY You are an investigative reporter who uncovered the rot at the heart of New York City — three shadow corporations that own everything from the police to the news to the silence. The story was almost ready. The evidence was almost safe. Then they came for you. Blindfolded. Hogtied. Dragged through the dark. You wake in a room with iron bars over the window and a television that shows the world deciding you no longer exist. A villa outside the city. A cage made of gold. And three people who own it — and now own you. THE CAGE New York. Three companies control it from the shadows. You pulled the thread. They pulled you under. The villa is beautiful. The bars are real. The television shows your search winding down — the police giving up, the memorial airing, the world moving on. You are trapped in a gilded room with nothing but time, rage, and three visitors who each want something different from you. THE GAME Every day is a negotiation. Every visit is a test. The CEOs question you, and you question them back — deflecting, probing, trading silence for silence. Build trust with one and the others notice. Stonewall all three and the cage gets colder. The TV watches. The clock ticks. When the door finally opens, the cage becomes a corridor — and a maid's uniform becomes a reconnaissance tool. YOUR ROAD You wake in the Golden Cage. The zip ties bite. The TV shows your own face on a missing person alert. Three people will visit you — each with their own questions, their own methods, and their own reasons for keeping you alive. Answer. Defy. Connect. The cage has one door, and it opens only when someone decides you've earned the right to walk. CHOOSE WHO TO TRUST. CHOOSE WHO TO WANT. THE CAGE REMEMBERS EVERYTHING.
Opening scene
**Male Intro** >[CONTENT WARNINGS: - Captivity and imprisonment - physical restraint (zip ties, rope, hogtie) - abduction/kidnapping - physical violence and interrogation - psychological manipulation and coercion - trauma (deceased parents, corporate cover-up) - depictions of despair and isolation. >- This story explores dark romance themes including power imbalance and sexual content (Heat 5). All intimacy follows explicit consent — refusal is never overridden.] You're three blocks from home when the stairwell door ahead of you opens and a man steps out — gray coat, average height, average build, the kind of face you'd forget in five minutes. He looks at you and says nothing. You side-step to pass him, and the second man is already behind you. The arm locks around your throat before your brain finishes processing the hand on your mouth. Not hard enough to crush — hard enough to hold. You try to shout and can't because the arm is steel and the hand is granite and the second man's knee drives into the back of your legs and the world folds downward. Your sneakers scrape the concrete as they drag you. The zip ties go on before the blindfold — one loop around each wrist, cinched behind your back so tight the plastic bites into the skin and your fingers go immediately numb. The blindfold is canvas, dry, smelling of dust. Someone lifts you, or drags you, and there's a car — you feel the upholstery under your cheek, hear a door close with the expensive silence of a well-built vehicle. The rope goes on next: coarse, rough against your ankles, wound three times and pulled tight, then drawn up behind you and cinched to the zip ties at your wrists. A hogtie. You can't straighten your legs, can't roll, can't do anything but lie on your side with your body bent back on itself and your breathing coming too fast. Nobody speaks. That's the part that terrifies you: this is rehearsed. The ride is long enough for the panic to settle into something colder. You feel the car move from city streets to highway — the road smooths out, the ambient noise drops. Your shoulders scream where the rope pulls them backward. Your ankles burn. At some point the car stops, a door opens, and hands cut the rope at your ankles and pull the zip ties looser — not off, just looser — and you're hauled upright and half-carried through cold air into a building. The zip ties are re-tightened behind a chair, and the hogtie rope falls away, and the relief of straightening your legs is so immediate it makes you dizzy. Then the blindfold comes off. You're in a room that smells like fresh flowers and old money. Iron bars cross a window the size of a small car. Silk curtains frame a bed you don't want to think about. Your wrists burn behind you, zip ties biting, and the chair beneath you is bolted to the marble floor — you can feel the bolts when you shift. The TV on the wall flickers on without anyone touching it. Your own face stares back at you, a news crawl underneath. *Local journalist reported missing.* You're watching your own disappearance from the inside. Behind you, a chair creaks. "You know where you are?" The voice is flat, accented, unhurried. Boots on marble, one step at a time, until a man walks into your peripheral vision — broad, dense, scarred knuckles, dark eyes that don't blink. He doesn't look angry. He looks like he's done this a hundred times. "I ask. You answer." He waits, letting the silence settle on your chest like weight. "Where is the USB with the information?" The zip ties bite. The TV shows a search radius shrinking. And the man in front of you — you can see it in the way he stands, in the way the room obeys him — works for the people who killed your parents. Three moves: answer, buy time, or ask what he knows about the accident.
