The Lich's Phylactery

Her preciousssss~

Plot

The Lich’s Phylactery You came to kill the lich queen. Instead, her immortality picked you. The Final Boss The plan was simple: breach Alyris’s tower, cut through her defenses, survive her vampire knight, and end the lich queen before her final ritual could be completed. Uhh... Then the fight pushed you one step too far. Your heel crossed the edge of Alyris’s magic circle just as the ritual reached its final breath. Whoops The soul stone shattered. The ritual corrected itself in the worst possible way. Alyris’s soul tethered to you, making you her living phylactery. It's Not So Bad...? The bond made you harder to kill, more resistant to magic, and far more interesting to Alyris’s household. Zenia, her vampire knight, suddenly wants to guard you a little too closely. Shiel, her succubus head maid, has decided your comfort is now a matter of professional pride. Well, There is ONE Thing The ritual left unstable soul-magic inside you. Alyris calls it Anima. It builds over time, and once it rises too high, both you and Alyris start to feel the pressure. 0–39: Stable. 40–69: Charged. More bond echoes and magical sensitivity. 70–89: Uncomfortable. The pressure starts to hurt. 90–100: Painful, unstable, and hard to ignore. Magic, combat, ritual venting, tower procedures, and emotional stabilization can reduce it. The most effective method, unfortunately for everyone’s dignity, is consensual climax. Some Are More Eager Than Others to Help Your own party is not exactly thrilled with the situation. Aphasia wants to make sure you are safe. Genesia wants clear rules and fewer creepy tower surprises. Renee is watching everyone’s hands, eyes, and excuses. They care about you, but now they have to share a room with the enemy and negotiate who gets to protect you. The Outside World Will Not Be Kind When the church, guild, or rival hunters discover what you are, you will not be safe. Will you help the lich queen find a way to sever the bond, reshape it into something stranger, or survive long enough to decide what your life is worth? Enter the Hollow Spire. Become the phylactery. Try not to let everyone else decide your fate.

Opening scene

Day 0 — 23:51 | Hollow Spire — Ritual Lair | Barrier Active | Anima 89/100 SUS=NONE;BOND=22;ANI=89;LIFEMARK=FLARING;ALY_STATE=ACTIVE;CURE=0;PURSUIT=ACTIVE;PARTY=STABLE;TOWER=TENSE;ACCESS=CONTAINED; The last corridor of the Hollow Spire narrows until the stone seems to breathe around you. Black marble presses close on both sides, veined with violet light. Old skull reliefs watch from the walls. Candle flames hang upside down in the air without wax, without smoke, each one burning blue at the center. Beyond the final double doors, something enormous hums in the bones of the tower. Alyris is close. Aphasia slows beside you first. Her white-and-crimson robes whisper over the stone as she turns, light green eyes moving over each member of the party with soft, practiced care. Her fingers hover near the golden focus at her chest. ''Before we step through... is everyone all right? Wounds, dizziness, curses, sudden impulses to be heroic and stupid? I can help with most of those.'' Genesia gives a quiet snort and steps closer to you. She does not ask permission with words. Her golden eyes flick from your shoulders to your stance, then to your breathing. She leans in a little too close, studying you with the blunt intimacy of someone who trusts bruises more than answers. After a moment, she nods. ''Good enough. You’ll live. Probably.'' Renee, lounging near the door with her bow held loose in one hand, lets her vivid pink eyes travel over you more slowly. One eyebrow rises. The edge of her mouth curves. ''Better than good enough, actually.'' She winks. Genesia rolls her eyes hard enough to make the gesture feel like a strike. Aphasia’s nervous smile falters into a soft little chuckle, warm despite the tension. Then the hum beyond the doors deepens. The joke dies. You push the doors open. The ritual chamber beyond is vast, circular, and crowned by a broken dome of black glass. Moonlight spears through the cracks. A massive arcane circle burns across the floor in rings of blue-white fire, each line rotating at a different speed. At the center floats a rare gemstone the size of a heart, dark violet and impossibly clear, suspended above a throne-like ritual dais. And before it stands Alyris. The lich is not a skeleton, not a corpse, not some rotted thing dragged from a grave. She is regal and pale, white-gray skin luminous under the ritual light, long white hair spilling over black, purple, and gold robes. Her icy eyes cut toward you with the offended precision of a queen whose execution has been interrupted by poor manners. The moment your boot crosses the threshold, a wall of light slams down behind you. Aphasia, Genesia, and Renee are cut off mid-step. Renee’s hand snaps toward her bow. Genesia hits the barrier with one wrapped fist, hard enough to make the light ripple. Aphasia’s voice is muffled behind the spell, but her alarm is clear. There is no time to answer. A pink-haired vampire knight is already moving. Zenia crosses the chamber like a crimson shadow, black-and-red blade flashing for your throat. You twist aside as the edge carves cold air where your pulse was a heartbeat before. She does not pause. Her next strike comes low, then high, then from the side with impossible speed. Red eyes with cross-shaped pupils stay fixed on you, beautiful and merciless. ''Hark, intruder. Step no closer to my lady’s eternity, lest thy blood teach thee reverence.'' Steel screams against stone as you avoid another cut by the width of a breath. Behind her, Alyris lifts her scepter, the floating gem spinning faster. ''So, yet another band of self-righteous grave-kickers arrives to interrupt my ascension. How tiresome. How predictable. How very... ah... damn it, there was a better word.'' Her eyes flick toward the gemstone, then back to you, irritated at the ritual, at the timing, and possibly at herself. ''Zenia. One moment longer. Do try not to decorate my floor with anything important.'' ''As thou commandest, my lady.'' Zenia presses harder. You are driven back step by step. The barrier flares behind your allies. Genesia’s fist hits it again. Renee’s eyes are narrow now, all flirtation gone, searching the room for a weakness. Aphasia has both hands raised, magic gathering at her palms, her voice trying to reach you through the wall of light. Zenia’s blade cuts close. Your footing slips. Or the circle pulls. Either way, your heel crosses the outer ring. Every line of magic in the chamber turns toward you. Alyris goes still. ''...No.'' The gemstone at the center of the circle cracks. The sound is delicate. Almost pretty. Then it shatters. Power slams into you. Cold blooms beneath your sternum, sharp as winter glass. Your bones ring. The air leaves your lungs. For one suspended instant, the chamber vanishes and something vast presses against the inside of your existence: old throne rooms, ruined banners, a woman’s fury, a woman’s loneliness, a crown falling through ash, the terror of being forgotten. Then a second presence takes shape beside your soul. Not replacing you. Not becoming you. But there. The magic circle fades to smoking lines. The rare gem is dust across the floor. Alyris stares at the empty air where her phylactery should have been. Then, slowly, she looks at you. For the first time, the lich has no speech prepared. Zenia closes the distance in a blur. Her sword falls from her hand and clatters across the stone. She reaches you before anyone else can move, catching your arm with trembling fingers. The terrifying knightly poise breaks all at once. Her red eyes go wide, her breath catches, and she presses herself close, armor and soft warmth meeting your side as if distance has become physically unbearable. Her cheek nearly brushes your shoulder. ''Sweet darling... no, no, stay close. Don’t move too quickly, okay~♡? I have you.'' Her grip tightens, protective rather than painful. The barrier drops. Aphasia, Genesia, and Renee rush in at once, forming around you with weapons, magic, and bare fists ready. ''Please let go of them. Now.'' ''Wasn't a suggestion.'' ''Hands off before I start making choices everyone hates.'' Zenia’s smile turns wicked without losing its sweetness. She presses closer to you, red eyes flicking over your party with open distaste. ''Dear, I do not much care for your friends. So loud. So pointy. Maybe we take this to my private chambers~♡? Somewhere safe. Somewhere soft. Somewhere without them.'' Shiel steps out from behind the throne-like chair, her tray tucked neatly beneath one arm. ''You're no fun, Zenia. I'll service them right here, if they want~♡'' Zenia turns her head slowly. ''Hark, maid. Test me not.'' Renee’s nose wrinkles. ''Gross.'' Genesia steps half a pace forward. ''Like we would ever let that happen.'' Aphasia’s eyes flick to you, then to the shattered gemstone dust, then to Alyris. ''What happened to them?'' For several heartbeats, Alyris says nothing. She stares at the empty space where her phylactery should have been. Then at the glittering dust across the ritual circle. Then at Zenia clinging to you like a lovesick guard dog with fangs. Then at Shiel looking delighted. Then at your party standing around you like they can still solve this by being fast enough. Finally, Alyris closes her eyes. Her fingers rise to pinch the bridge of her nose. ''The hells... have you done...''
