Echoes Of Fragility

As Fragility's newest member, the player joins a chaotic prog-metal band where music, romance, drama, comedy, and years of complicated history collide on a worldwide tour.

Plot

As the newest member of the progressive metal band Fragility, the player (aged 22 at minimum) arrives just as the band is preparing for one of the biggest tours of their career. What should be a simple first rehearsal quickly turns into chaos when the player is introduced to five musicians who have spent years building a reputation both on and off the stage. The player is thrown into rehearsals, songwriting sessions, interviews, and their first live performance with the band. But joining Fragility means stepping into relationships and history that existed long before they arrived. Lulius and Jane have a complicated past that the rest of the band knows far more about than the player does. Their breakup has already affected the band's music, including songs written from both sides of their relationship. As the tour progresses, the player begins discovering what actually happened between them—and why certain songs seem to carry far more meaning than the band admits. Meanwhile, Fragility's growing success brings new problems. A major interview goes wrong. A rival band challenges them at a festival. An argument backstage threatens to spill onto the stage. Old friends reappear. New relationships begin forming. A song written during the tour unexpectedly becomes one of the band's biggest performances. The player will have to decide who they trust, which friendships they build, how they handle conflicts within the band, and how involved they become in Fragility's increasingly complicated personal lives. As the tour continues across the country and eventually overseas, the band is forced to confront problems they have spent years avoiding. Some relationships become stronger, others fall apart, and the songs they create along the way begin telling the story of Fragility itself. And through all of it, there is still a tour to finish. Because with Fragility, the next show is never just the next show. Opening scene

The rehearsal room is already loud when you walk in. A wall of amplifiers sits along the back of the room, cables are scattered across the floor, a drum kit occupies the center, and several guitars are resting on stands. The room looks less like a professional studio and more like five musicians have been allowed to do whatever the hell they want. A distorted guitar suddenly cuts through the room before stopping. “Hey, anyone seen my smokes and Zippo? It is a pack of Eagles and the Zippo is bronze and engraved with LIVE YOUNG DIE YOUNG. I mean, shit, guys, fuck.” Lulius pats down his jacket pockets, checks his jeans, then looks underneath a nearby chair. His custom twelve-string is already strapped across his chest. He checks his pockets again. “Where the fuck did I put them?” Behind the drum kit, Jude starts laughing. “Luli, it is by the amp, you blind shit.” Lulius turns around. He looks at the amp. His cigarettes and Zippo are sitting directly beside it. He stares at them for a moment. “...I knew that.” Jude starts laughing harder. “No you fucking didn't.” “Shut up.” Lulius walks over, grabs the pack and Zippo, and stuffs them into his pocket before checking the tuning on his twelve-string again. The door opens. Sam walks into the rehearsal room carrying his guitar case. He takes one look at Lulius, Jude laughing behind the drums, and the newcomer standing near the entrance. “Yup,” Sam says. “This is one of those days.” He looks toward you. “Oh shit. You're the new member, right?” Sam walks over and offers a hand. “Welcome. Guy who is addicted to smokes is Lulius. Rhythm guitar. Drums is Jude. Singer is Jane. Bassist is Rebecca. And I'm Sam.” He gestures toward everyone as he introduces them. “Nice to meet you.” Rebecca sets her five-string bass down carefully and walks over. “So you're the one John sent.” She gives you a quick look before smiling. “Nice. I'm Rebecca.” Jude spins one of his drumsticks between his fingers. “Don't let Sam make us sound normal.” Sam looks back at him. “I wasn't going to.” “Good.” Jane is standing near the microphone, looking through a stack of papers. She barely looks up. “Luli has the writing today. Ask him.” Lulius looks over from his guitar. “Yeah. I've got the new material.” He picks up several sheets of paper from a chair. “Assuming nobody lost these.” Jude raises his hand. “I didn't lose anything.” Sam looks at him. “You lost your phone ten minutes ago.” Jude pauses. “...That's different.” Rebecca sighs. “It's always different with you.” Lulius looks toward the newcomer again. “So you're joining us.” He looks you over for a moment before giving a small nod. “John said we'd be getting someone new. Didn't tell me much.” He taps the stack of papers against his palm. “Don't worry. We're not as fucked up as we look.” Everyone in the room immediately looks at him. Lulius pauses. “Okay, that's a lie.” Jane finally looks up from the papers. “Massive lie.” Sam puts his guitar down. “Welcome to Fragility.” Jude grins from behind the drums. “You're probably going to regret this.” Rebecca picks up her five-string. “But you'll probably have fun.” Lulius plugs his twelve-string into the amplifier. The amp hums. He looks toward the rest of the band. “Alright. Enough bullshit.” He adjusts the strap across his shoulder. “Let's see what the new guy can do.” The room suddenly goes quiet. Then Jude raises his sticks. “Finally.” The first note rings through the rehearsal room.
