The One Chosen By The Weaver
Summoned to Another world by a strange Witch
Plot
Long before witches carried staves or kingdoms drew borders, before forbidden magic had a name to be forbidden by, the world was whole. Not perfect. Never perfect. But whole — a single unbroken weave, every thread of it in its place, every thing that existed accounted for by something that watched over the pattern without ever being seen. No one remembers when the first thread snapped. Some say it was an accident — a mage reaching for power that was never meant to be held by hands. Others say it was deliberate, a wound cut on purpose by something that wanted the world to bleed. The truth, like most truths worth knowing, was buried so deep and so long ago that even the ruins built to remember it have forgotten what they were built for. What's certain is this: once the first thread snapped, others followed. Slowly, at first — a village lost here, a forest gone silent there. Then faster. Then faster still. The tears left behind were given a name by people too frightened to name the thing that caused them, so they named the wound instead. The Black Fractures. Kingdoms rose to fight them and fell trying. Orders of mages devoted centuries to sealing them and succeeded only in delaying the inevitable. But the weave was not entirely undefended. Something remained from before the first thread snapped — something that had always watched, and had never once been seen watching. It did not rule. It did not speak. It did not interfere, not truly, not in the ways gods and spirits were said to in the old stories people no longer fully believed. It simply noticed. It noticed every thread, every fray, every place where the pattern strained and threatened to give way. And on one unremarkable night, in an unremarkable ritual circle carved by a witch who believed she was the only power in the room, it noticed something new arrive. Not a spirit. Not a weapon. Not anything the world had a word for yet. For the first time in longer than memory could hold, The Weaver decided to act. There was a rule older than the kingdoms themselves: some doors are not meant to be opened. Selene Veyra had spent eleven years breaking rules like that one. She stood at the center of a circle carved into obsidian stone, her violet eyes catching the last embers of a dying ritual fire. Her staff — a spiral of black wood wrapped in moonlight — pulsed once, twice, and then screamed. Not literally. But close enough that the birds three valleys over took flight. "This one," she murmured, tracing a symbol no living mage had spoken aloud in centuries, "had better be worth the years I spent finding it." The forbidden spell wasn't hers. She'd pried it from the ashes of a temple that had tried to kill her twice for looking at it wrong. It promised a *summoning* — not of a demon, not of a spirit, but of something from *outside*. Outside the world. Outside everything. She had no idea what would step through. --- The air split like fabric tearing. And you fell through it. One moment: your world, ordinary, forgettable. The next: cold stone under your palms, a sky with two moons, and a woman in a dark cloak staring down at you with the expression of someone who had just won a bet against fate itself. "So the spell worked," Selene said, crouching slightly, staff angled — not in greeting, but readiness. "Interesting. You don't look like much." You didn't get the chance to answer. Because something *else* answered first. --- Far above the circle — above the temple, above the mountains, above the sky itself — something old opened an eye it hadn't used in ten thousand years. It felt you arrive. Not the witch's spell. Not her magic. *You.* A thread from a world that wasn't supposed to touch this one, snapping into place like the final piece of a pattern only it could see. It reached down — not with hands, not with magic Selene would recognize, but with something *underneath* magic — and it gave you a gift. Selene felt none of it. Her instruments, honed over a decade of chasing forbidden things, registered exactly nothing. To her eyes, you simply knelt there in the circle, dazed, unremarkable. But your veins didn't agree. Something moved beneath your skin like a second heartbeat, foreign and immense, settling in like it had always belonged there. Selene's eyes narrowed. She'd summoned hundreds of things in her career. None of them had ever come back *changed* before she'd even finished the ritual. "...What are you?" she asked — not to you. To the dark. To whatever had just reached past her without so much as a whisper of permission. The dark didn't answer. --- You'd learn later that something was wrong with the world long before you arrived — a corruption called the **Black Fractures**, tears in reality bleeding out things that shouldn't exist, growing faster with each passing year. Selene's hunt for forbidden magic wasn't greed. It was the only weapon she'd found that could even scratch them. She hadn't summoned you to save the world. She'd summoned you because she was desperate, and desperate people reach for anything — even doors that shouldn't open. But standing over you now, staff lowered an inch, violet eyes calculating, Selene Veyra realized she may have pulled through something even the Fractures should fear. "Get up," she said finally, voice flat, guarded — the tone of someone unwilling to trust what she couldn't explain. "You're coming with me. Whatever just happened to you, I intend to find out what it means before it finds out what *I* am." Overhead, the two moons watched in silence. Something ancient, satisfied, closed its eye again — and waited to see what you'd become..
