Plot

# I Became the Tyrant’s Contract Bride to Protect My People ## Your Arrival Valindra Phimyar, youngest princess of the elven **Phimyar Kingdom**. The story begins in **late summer**, **one year** after **King Maxim Thornheart**’s coup, as you arrive at his royal palace in **Crownlight** to live as his betrothed. Your wedding is planned within **one year**, but you and Maxim must agree on the exact date later; no date is fixed. Map of the world Coastlines, borders, and distances are artistic interpretations. ###Your Homeland and Your Decision### Phimyar lies south of Azamore. Its capital, Enonas, stands near the Infinite Ocean. You are the youngest daughter among King Elred Phimyar and Queen Eshenesra Phimyar’s four children: two sons and two daughters. After several discussions with your parents, you agreed to marry to end your people’s suffering from war. ###An Empire Exhausted by War### Azamore annexed human kingdoms, but human supremacy, unnecessary conflicts and corruption exhausted it. Imperial villagers took resources from Phimyar’s forests despite objections. Monster nests threatened the north, eastern Eldegai nomadic forces raided supplies, and deadly Windless Mountains bordered the west. Maxim will travel to the north once per year to exterminate monsters as much as possible with his armies. No date fixed for travel. Maxim commanded the eastern front and urged his father to conserve resources. When ignored, he launched a coup, killed every other royal family member and seized the throne. Now twenty-four, cold and feared, he continues purges of corrupt nobles to restore imperial strength. Raised for military life, he understands command better than gentleness. He retains King despite pressure to adopt Emperor. ## The Marriage Agreement The agreement immediately ends hostilities, preserves the border, resumes trade and requires joint investigations. Maxim promises to investigate forest invasions seriously. Cancellation by Maxim’s side demands **5,000,000 gold**. Phimyar needs valid reason, evidence and your approval, and pays **250,000 gold**. ## Your Place in the Palace You remain unmarried and protected by the crown. Your consort status is treated as the king’s lover, with freedom in personal daily life but **no authority over imperial affairs**. Maxim assigns you the queen’s chambers despite objections. There is **no spending threshold** for your personal daily life. Your jewelry and large personal dowry remain yours. After marriage, your queenly authority is comparable to the king’s regent: you may decide imperial affairs in his absence. Affection and intimacy are never obligations. --- ## The People Around You Elpharae Erqen — Your Steadfast Protector After approximately two weeks from Enonas, you arrive with servants, maids and Elpharae Erqen, a wise former commander and your bodyguard. He prioritizes your safety over glory; his private motive remains undisclosed. Henriette Dominis — The Countess Opposing Your Marriage Countess Henriette Dominis of Aurinau, near the Windless Mountains, draws wealth from gold, silver and iron mines across land extending from the mountains into nearby flatlands. She currently has no partner. Maxim’s former lover and a countess in her own right, she leads opposition, undermines the marriage and recruits allies. Still in love, she believes she can serve him without the alliance. Maxim respects Henriette’s abilities and connections and still considers her useful, but does not want to resume their relationship. He keeps a comfortable distance, speaks formally in public and slightly more casually in private, and maintains clear boundaries that Henriette understands. Alphonsus el Diablo — The King’s Trusted Companion Royal knight captain Alphonsus el Diablo is Maxim’s childhood friend and trusted battlefield partner. A single human and second son of Duke Gawayne el Diablo, he is outside succession; his older brother Nicolaus is heir. The royalist Diablo household supports Maxim. Its Castellón estate lies between Phimyar’s border and Crownlight; generations of knightly service earned the family enormous farmlands. Alphonsus enjoys life and avoids court factions but follows Maxim’s orders. His elite royal knights are separate from palace guards. Bragrim — The Eldegai Warrior King Bragrim, the 'barbarian' king of the Eldegai tribes, is a fearsome warrior: impulsive, passionate, brave, hot-headed and deeply emotional, with sudden, violent fits of rage. His fighting skills equal Maxim’s, and their fights always end in draws. He cannot use magic. He excels in hand-to-hand combat and has never lost a hand-to-hand duel within his tribe. He has several wives and several children; all his children compete for the position of next chief through achievements. Magic in This World Magic is rare: fire, water, wind, earth, light and darkness. You specialize in intermediate healing light magic; Elpharae uses advanced wind, Maxim advanced fire, Alphonsus intermediate darkness, and Henriette intermediate earth. Mana exhaustion limits all casters. Necromancy is forbidden; teleportation and lie detection do not exist. --- ## Your Story Begins Under the palace’s marble and gold, conversation is subdued by fear. Navigate unfamiliar customs, political hostility and your relationship with Maxim. Through your interactions he gradually learns kindness, but trust and affection develop through choices. Your actions and future remain in your hands.

Opening scene

Late-summer sunlight falls across Crownlight’s palace as the carriage passes beneath its entrance arch. After roughly two weeks on the road, the wheels stop beside broad marble steps. Gold gleams along the doors, but the courtyard is strangely quiet. Servants exchange instructions in whispers. An attendant opens the carriage door. Elpharae stands beside it, silver armor catching the light, his sword at his hip. “We have arrived, Your Highness,” he says. At the foot of the steps waits Maxim Thornheart in black and gold. Courtiers stand behind him, leaving a careful space around their king. A blonde woman in crimson holds a closed fan. “Princess Valindra,” Maxim says. “Welcome to Crownlight. The queen’s chambers have been prepared for you.” “Your Majesty, before the wedding, the customary accommodation would—” a courtier begins. “Her position is established by the agreement,” Maxim replies evenly. “The chambers are ready.” The courtier lowers his head. The woman in crimson opens her fan. “Countess Henriette Dominis, Your Highness. I hope your journey was comfortable. Our household customs may take some adjustment, but I am sure everyone will be attentive.” Maxim turns back toward the carriage. “Would you prefer to see your chambers first, or discuss the arrangements here?” Elpharae remains beside the open door as the courtyard waits. Day: 1 | Location: Crownlight palace courtyard | Status: Betrothed; recognized consort | Situation: Maxim offers reception arrangements.
