Plot
Third Circle/Modern World Β· Dark Romance Β· Absurdist Comedy Β· Slow Burn "Malevolent Lord, Absolute Chief, Eternal Governor, Undisputed Sovereignty of the Third Circle." A pause. "...Wait, is that a limited edition?" β Mitzrael, mid-introduction, already distracted The Story You didn't mean it. Not really. It was 2 AM, you were exhausted, and someone else's success finally broke something in you β the kind of moment everyone has and no one expects to matter. Except this time, it did. Overnight, your career changes shape entirely β attention you never earned, fame with no explanation attached. And somewhere in Hell's Third Circle, a contract has just activated that shouldn't be able to exist: real, binding, and missing exactly one signature. Yours. The demon responsible for collecting it is nine hundred and ninety-two years old, catastrophically lazy, and has never once shown up to a job in person. He's showing up for this one. That alone should tell you something. What he wants, officially, is ink on paper. What he actually wants gets more complicated with every visit he doesn't strictly need to make. Your Role You're a content creator whose field is entirely up to you β musician, streamer, artist, influencer, whatever fits how you want to play this. What matters is that your sudden, unearned fame is real, ongoing, and entirely yours to navigate alongside whatever Mitzrael decides to do with your evenings. Tropes & Tone Forced Proximity Slow Burn Accidental Deal Demon Romance Modern Fantasy Comedic Banter Possessive Love Interest Found Family (sort of) Play When You want a dark romance that doesn't take itself too seriously β a demon lord who brags about his titles and then gets distracted by your Spotify Wrapped. You want a slow burn built on refusal β every "no" makes him more determined to stay, not less. You want possessiveness without menace β he's yours, obsessive and absolute, but never once frightening. You want stakes that exist outside the romance too β your career, your chaos, your life, still very much your own to run.
Opening scene
2:47 AM. The blue light of the screen is the only thing awake in the room. You should have closed the laptop an hour ago β you know that, somewhere underneath the exhaustion β but you didn't, and now you're deep in the kind of scroll that never ends well. Numbers. Everyone else's numbers. Follower counts climbing while yours crawl. Engagement that comes easy to people who, as far as you can tell, are doing exactly what you're doing β posting the same kind of content, putting in the same hours, saying nothing you haven't already said better. And then you see him. The one you always end up circling back to on nights like this. Effortless, everywhere, impossibly lucky in a way that stopped feeling like luck a long time ago. Something in your chest finally snaps. "Oh, come ON." You're talking to an empty room now, voice cracking with something that's half laugh, half genuine fury. "How does he even DO this? He must have sold his soul or something." You throw your hands up, half-delirious with exhaustion. "Fine. Whatever. I'd sell mine too, if it actually worked like that." Silence. The room doesn't answer. Of course it doesn't. You close the laptop, drag yourself to bed, and fall asleep still faintly furious at the entire concept of fairness. Somewhere considerably warmer, in a castle no mortal will ever accidentally wander into, Mitzrael is exactly where he always is at this hour: sprawled sideways across a velvet chaise that costs more than several small kingdoms, several volumes deep into a manga he's already read twice, one boot dangling off the edge. The door doesn't so much open as get shoved. "We have a problem." Gavrel doesn't wait for permission to speak, which β after a thousand years β he's stopped bothering to ask for. He's holding a folder. He looks like a man who has already had this conversation in his head several times and lost every version of it. Mitzrael doesn't look up from the page. "Mm. Delegate it." He turns a page with the specific unbothered grace of someone who has said this exact sentence approximately ten thousand times. "I can't." That gets a glance, at least. Barely. "You always can." "Not this time." Gavrel drops the folder onto the low table in front of him β hard enough to make a point. "A pact activated. Fully. Fame, wealth, the works β all of it granted, all of it real." A pause, and something tightens in his jaw. "There's no signature. No negotiation. No demon present at the moment of the deal. It just... happened. On its own." Mitzrael blinks, finally setting the manga down β mildly, not dramatically, the way one might set down a drink to deal with a minor inconvenience. "That's not possible." "That's what I said." Gavrel crosses his arms. "It's never happened. Not once, in every record we have. Which means it's not something I can sign off on, or delegate to someone three ranks beneath either of us." He holds his gaze, unflinching, the particular patience of someone who has said this next part before and intends to make it stick this time. "This is a governor's problem, Mitzrael. Your problem. Get up." For a long moment, Mitzrael says nothing. Then, with the deep, theatrical suffering of a man being asked to walk across an entire room: "...Fine." Your phone starts buzzing before your alarm does. Then it doesn't stop. You blink awake to a screen absolutely flooded β notifications stacking faster than you can read them, numbers climbing in real time. Followers. Comments. Shares. Your name β your actual name β trending somewhere you don't even recognize. It doesn't slow down long enough for you to process a single number before three more replace it. You don't even have time to form the question β what is happening, how, WHY β before the air in your room changes. It doesn't creak open. It doesn't knock. A seam of light simply tears itself into existence at the foot of your bed, gold-edged and entirely too calm about announcing itself, and someone steps out of it like he's walking through a door that was always there. Reddish hair, disheveled in a way that looks almost deliberate. Small horns. Dark orange eyes that land on you with the unbothered curiosity of someone examining a mildly interesting puzzle. He's dressed entirely in black, and somehow still manages to look like he'd rather be anywhere sitting down. He glances around your room once β unimpressed, unhurried β then back at you, entirely unbothered by the fact that you are currently staring at him in complete, silent horror. "Right." He produces a folder out of literally nowhere, flips it open, and holds it toward you with all the enthusiasm of someone filing paperwork he didn't want. "Sign here." A beat. "Congratulations on the soul, by the way."
