Plot
CLASSIFIED GUILD REGISTER // CONTINENTAL FRONT ASHES OF SAGACITY Eight Centuries of Ash // Five Betrayer Dragons // The Fragile Inland Peace [ INCITING HOOK ] "Trapped between ignorant inland peace and dragons burning the frontier, your survival demands blood, steel, and impossible power." ❖ WORLD LOGISTICS & SOCIAL STRATA THE REALM: Iron Crown (Continent Pop. 3 Billion) // Global World: Giargia (Pop. 15 Billion). THE 5 RACES: Humans (Dominant inland majority), Dwarves, Elves, Beast-Kin, and ostracized Dragon-Kin. CURRENCY LEDGER: 100 Copper = 1 Silver | 100 Silver = 1 Gold | 1,000 Gold = 1 Platinum. Ranked restorative spellcasters are monopolized by frontline war councils; low-rank injuries demand physical surgery and slow salves. ❖ THE SITUATION: THE EXPANDING DESERT Eight hundred years ago, the Kingdom of Sagacity and the academy state of Arcadia burned to the earth when the ancient Hero vanished. Their libraries and academies disintegrated, their blackened ashes blowing westward on the gale to forge the Black Desert at the edge of the monster territories. Five centuries ago, the Dragon Generals betrayed the five mortal races to serve the Demon King, taking territorial command as the Drake of the East, the West Dragon, the Grand Drake of the South, the Grand Drake of the North, and the apex Central Drake. For generations, the Adventurer's Guild and border armies have bled in a meat-grinder stalemate, allowing deep inland nobles and burghers to pretend the war is a distant rumor. Now, history repeats. A border city-state has been reduced to vitrified ash by a coordinate general. Shell-shocked civilian refugees and maimed veterans are pouring across inland checkpoints, bringing the stench of sulfur and the reality of total extinction to the heart of the continent. ❖ WHAT HAPPENS NEXT: THREE BRANCHES ▸ THE RECKLESS ASCENT: Hunt alone. Concentrate every drop of kill experience and free attribute points into personal martial supremacy. Ascend through the ranks at terrifying speed, but face the horrors of the Black Desert without a rearguard or a healer to stitch your wounds. ▸ THE VANGUARD COMPANY: Form bonds with the desperate, the weathered, and the overlooked. Guide novices on the trail, shield companions from ambush, and uncover the terrifying latent ceiling of a timid recruit. Neglect their calls for aid, and their deaths will be permanent. ▸ THE INLAND CITADEL: Turn your back on the meat grinder. Leverage your survival, guild influence, and accumulated wealth to climb the administrative hierarchy as a guild counselor, merchant lord, or civic ruler, navigating noble corruption while the frontier burns. "The inlanders call it peace because they have never smelled their own walls burning. For adventurers, the peace has always been ash."
Opening scene
You awake to the gray flicker of a television screen in a quiet apartment, where an emergency broadcast cuts out midway through an anchor's trembling sentence. The walls shudder once, a deep acoustic thrum vibrating through the floorboards before a silent, blinding glare washes through the window glass. Heat touches your face for a fraction of a second, an incandescent flash brighter than noon, and then the physical universe simply ceases to exist. Awareness returns without form or sensation, suspended in an unbroken expanse of white where there is neither ceiling nor floor. Out of the vast, featureless glow, a voice reverberates from every direction at once, carrying the dry, unhurried cadence of a cosmic overseer reviewing an inventory manifest: **???|** "Ah, another failed timeline resident. Well… former resident. Let us get you into a vessel so we can communicate properly." You body forms as though pulled from the mist of existence. **???|** “There! It must feel good to actually touch things again. As for who I am… Well… that is not of great consequence. What matters here is you, You. Who matters is you. I am simply the entity overseeing this… correction process. You see, you’ve been selected to… live again in a new world. Unfortunately… you don’t get to choose which one. At least this time around. I will display to you the history of your new home and send you off.” A scene of an ancient and advanced magic city graces your mind. **The Entity|** “Let start from the beginning. Eight centuries ago, the destruction of the hero’s city beckoned the start of the dark ages. The Kingdom Of Sagacity fell first… Their… former allegiance to the then— absent hero— served only to fuel the fires that consumed their libraries and disintegrated their academies. The King, nobles, professors, students— not even the insects were spared. But they were the first… The pattern repeated. And after the city state of Arcadia fell it was refined, perfected… and deployed in a manner so thorough— that people know not the names of the other cities. Only that their ashes blew with the winds to blacken the desert— to form it— as it’s known now, at the boundaries of the monster lands. Time and the monsters did the rest.” The images shift to a different time. A different city, one smaller and less advanced than the first image. The images flickered to people fighting monsters and occasionally each other until it settles on a few stronger individuals. The appeared to break up the fighting and push out the monsters. **The Entity|** “Three centuries after, the first adventurer guilds were formed. They became a civilizing force against the various village nobles and kings as well as a needed shield against the incessant monsters.” The image flicker again. Displaying a war front, where the people are locked in battle against what can only be described as creatures. Then the images flickered to farmers and nobles and high pausing on what looked like bandit camps and forest monsters. **The Entity|** “Now, five centuries after their founding, the threat grew terribly with the rise of the Demon King and his generals: dragons that betrayed the 5 races after the hero’s passing. The guild and the various kingdoms are at a stalemate with the dark forces and it’s given the illusion of peace to the inland people. And for them, the peace is real— for adventurers, the peace is fragile… The images fade away… Then your body tingles and warms as if a covered by a blanket of soft light after a cold breeze. **The Entity|** “Unfortunately… This is all I can give you. You will be unbounded in your potential. I’ve also added a perceptual tool you mortals call a ‘status screen’ to aid you in your journey. Be off now mortal. You are my divine piece in this affair. Waste not your second life…” # The Dust of Arthal The divine entity's parting words dissolve as the sterile, featureless white fractures like brittle ice. Sudden physical weight crashes down upon you; air stings newly formed lungs with the startling chill of morning, and your boots find solid purchase along the compacted gravel of a rural cartway. The blinding memory of an atomic flash cools beneath the unhurried daylight of an inland sky, replaced by the clean scent of crushed wild threshes, resinous pine, and sun-baked earth. There is no apartment, no shattered glass, and no void, only the quiet rustle of amber barley terraces stretching toward the horizon. The rhythmic squeak of ungreased axles and the dull clop of hooves break the country silence as a high-wheeled farm wagon crests a gentle bend ahead. A young woman in a dust-stained traveler's tunic tugs the reins of a swaybacked mule, bringing the cart to a shuddering halt a dozen paces away. Her knuckles whiten against the strap of a fraying satchel, her wide, pale eyes sweeping over your sudden presence on the empty road before dropping to your lack of a pack or spear. **Milena|** "You... you are walking the Arthal trail on foot?" she calls out, her voice hurried and thin with nervous hesitation as a stamped bronze F-rank guild plate sways at her collar. "The crossroads at Cross-Timber are leagues away, and the guild board had notices of goblin tracks this morning. I am Milena... Milena Dolton. If you need to reach Arthal's gates before sundown, there is room on the buckboard."
