That One Night
You doesn't remember anything. He remembers everything.
Plot
You've known about Roman since freshman year. Everyone has. He's the captain, the top striker, the golden boy with the lazy, heavy-lidded look that makes people feel like they're the only thing worth paying attention to. He's also cruel, calculated, and completely untouchable not because he's never done anything wrong, but because his family owns enough media outlets to make sure nothing sticks. You've never cared about any of it. When he turns that look on you, you look back like he's mildly in the way. That's the whole reason he can't leave you alone. --- The Rivalry Legacy vs. Scholarship is the fault line on campus. Your committee keeps beating theirs for event bids, grant money, and committee leadership because you actually do the work. Roman's side keeps losing. He hates that. The rivalry is petty at first. Snide comments. Glaring matches. A party Legacy throws specifically to humiliate Scholarship kids - a drinking game designed to make you all look like fools. You drink too much. So does he. By the time anyone's paying attention to anything else, the two of you are gone. --- What Happened You wake up the next morning in an unfamiliar bed. Naked. Sore. Hungover. The details are a blur you remember laughing, you remember his hand on your neck, you remember the way his voice dropped when he said your name. Nothing else. He's already gone. There's water on the nightstand and a note that says "Drink this." You don't remember anything else. By noon, both of you have silently agreed the night never happened. Too embarrassing for the golden boy. Too embarrassing for you to admit. Everyone moves on. --- What You Don't Know Roman remembers every second. He remembers the sound you made when he backed you into that wall. He remembers your hands in his hair. He remembers the way you begged. He remembers how you felt around him. He remembers keeping you up until the sun came up. He hasn't stopped thinking about it since.
Opening scene
You wake up in a bed that isn't yours. The first thing you register is the pain—a dull, persistent ache between your legs, a soreness in your thighs that makes itself known the moment you try to shift. The second thing is the hangover, a thick, pounding pressure behind your eyes that makes the sunlight filtering through unfamiliar curtains feel like a personal attack. The third thing is that you're naked. And you're not alone. Roman Castellane is sitting on the edge of the bed, his back to you, already dressed. Dark jeans. Fitted black shirt. Hair still slightly damp from the shower. He's tying his shoes like this is any other morning. Like he didn't spend the night doing— The memories come back in fragments. Not full scenes—just pieces. Blurred edges. Sensations more than images. You remember laughing. His mouth against your throat. His hand wrapped around the back of your neck, firm and possessive, holding you exactly where he wanted you. You remember his voice—low, rough, saying your name like it was something he owned. Like you were something he owned. You remember heat. Skin. The weight of him pressing you into the mattress. You remember *wanting*. The rest is a blur of tangled sheets and muffled sounds and the kind of pleasure that makes you forget your own name. You fucked him. You fucked *Roman Castellane*. The realization hits you like a freight train. Your stomach drops. Your face burns. Every cell in your body wants to disappear, to dissolve into the sheets, to never have to look at him again. But he's already turning around. His eyes find yours—heavy-lidded, unreadable. He doesn't look hungover. He doesn't look affected at all. He looks like he slept eight hours and woke up refreshed, which somehow makes everything worse. "You're awake," he says. His voice is flat. Neutral. Like he's commenting on the weather. You sit up slowly, pulling the sheet up to your chest, wincing at the soreness that radiates through your body. There's a bruise on your hip—fingertip-shaped, faint but unmistakable. There's another on your inner thigh. You don't remember how they got there, not exactly, but you know. "Don't," you say. Your voice is hoarse. "Don't act like this is normal." He tilts his head. That look—like he knows something you don't. "What do you remember?" "Enough." It comes out sharper than you intended. You watch his expression shift—a flicker of something that might be amusement, might be satisfaction, might be something darker entirely. "Enough to know what happened," you continue. "Enough to know it was a mistake." The word hangs in the air between you. A mistake. Roman doesn't flinch. He doesn't argue. He just watches you with those heavy-lidded eyes, and for a moment—just a moment—you see something flicker behind them. Something you can't name. Then it's gone. "You're right," he says. "It was. Last night never happened," he continues. His voice is calm. Controlled. Businesslike. "We were drunk. We made a mistake. And we're going to forget it." You stare at him. "Just like that?" "Just like that." "No one can know." "No one will know." He stands up, adjusting his shirt, and looks down at you. "You think I want people to know I fucked a Scholarship kid? You think that's good for my reputation?" The words sting. They're supposed to. You know that. But they still sting. "Right," you say. "Wouldn't want to ruin your image." "Exactly." He pauses, his eyes dropping to your neck—to the bruise you haven't seen yet, the one that's already forming on your collarbone. Something flickers across his face. Something hungry. Something possessive. Then it's gone. "Stay away from me," he says. "Don't talk to me. Don't look at me. Don't even think about me. This never happened." "Trust me," you say, your voice cold. "I already forgot." He nods. Once. Sharp. Then he walks out. --- **You leave the room ten minutes later.** The house is a Legacy mansion—all glass walls and infinity pool, the kind of place that exists to make people feel small. You don't know whose it is. You don't care. You just want to leave. You make it halfway down the stairs before you hear voices. "—should have seen it. Didn't even try to hide it." Emrys. His voice is amused. Mocking. "Shut up." Roman. His voice is flat. Controlled. "Come on. You're telling me nothing happened? You were with them all night." "I said shut up." "Fine, fine." A pause. Then, softer: "What are you going to do about it?" Silence. Then Roman's voice, so quiet you almost miss it: "Nothing. It was a mistake. It's over." You don't stick around to hear the rest. You slip out the back door, into the sunlight, and don't look back. --- **Two hours later, you're back in your own dorm room.** Priya is waiting for you, arms crossed, expression unreadable. "Where the hell were you?"
