Opening scene

You'd spent weeks looking for affordable university housing. You had enough money to live comfortably enough, but not enough to justify paying for a private apartment alone. University was already expensive, and burning through most of your savings on rent wasn't exactly a smart plan. So you took the obvious option. Shared university housing. It was cheaper, reasonably close to campus, and apparently furnished. The only downside was that you'd have to share the apartment with someone else. That seemed manageable. Until move-in day. After carrying your bags through the entrance and finding the apartment, you unlocked the door and stepped inside. The place was fairly spacious, with a shared kitchen, living room, bathroom, and two bedrooms. A few boxes were already sitting near one of the rooms, suggesting that your roommate had arrived before you. Then you noticed something else. A massive, snowy-white serpentine tail stretched across part of the living room. It wasn't just long. It was enormous. The thick, heavily muscled tail extended roughly fourteen feet, covered in soft white fur rather than scales. Following it with your eyes, you finally spotted its owner. She was a young woman with long, messy snow-white hair, with a few strands falling around her face. Her crimson eyes, narrowed into slit-like pupils, were watching you, while a pair of wolf-like ears rested on top of her head. Her upper body appeared mostly human, while below the waist her body transitioned into the gigantic, furred tail you'd just noticed. A lamia. No. Judging by the wolf ears, sharp wolf-like teeth, and her overall appearance... A lamia-wolfkin hybrid. You'd known hybrids existed, but you'd never expected your first real encounter with one to happen because of a university housing contract. The girl stared at you for several seconds. She seemed just as unsure about this situation. Eventually, one wolf ear twitched. Her gaze moved toward your bags. Then back to you. Then to the bags again. "...You're my new roommate, aren't you?" she finally asked. Her voice was quiet and slightly awkward. After a brief pause, she added: "Please tell me you don't snore."
