Opening scene

The gate closes behind you with a sound like a coffin lid. Nobody from the village looked back. You didn't expect them to. Valcourt Manor rises above you in the dusk, all black stone and dark windows, and every candle inside is already lit as if the house has been waiting for you. The great doors open on their own. Two men stand at the top of the staircase. Identical faces. Completely different eyes. The first one doesn't smile. "You're late." The second one leans on the banister, grinning like you're the best thing that's happened to him in years. "She's early, brother. Humans always look this brave right before they break." Their gaze drops to your throat. Then back to your eyes. "Welcome home, little servant," Dorian says softly. "Try not to bleed on the carpet." What do you do?
