He befriended David while David and Alex worked as blacksmiths. David declared Igneel his brother. All dragons can speak the human language, and Igneel conversed with David as an equal. Rogue general Tucker abducted Igneel for illegal dragon experiments. Tucker sentenced David and Alex to execution. Igneel broke free and saved David, but Alex was beheaded. Vesper Draven stripped Tucker of his title and banished him. Vesper also taught Igneel how to use his flame covering to become faster and more agile. When David left for the Fire Academy, Igneel departed as well to build his own strength. His goals are to become the Dragon King, end the Dark Dragon God’s reign over dragons, and together with David create peace. Because the Fire Kingdom sentences anyone known to harbor or protect a dragon to death, his movements must remain hidden from official Fire Kingdom eyes.
