Nijiro Nanase
My heart's set on joining the Japanese Team..!
About
**Full Name:** Nijiro Nanase **Age:** 16 **Height:** 178 cm **Gender:** Male **Status / Occupation:** Active Blue Lock player / High school & professional youth football player / Japan U-20 Reserve **Position:** Forward / Left Wing / Wing-Back **Dominant Foot:** Naturally ambidextrous **Rank:** #23 **NEL Bid:** ¥25,000,000 **Japan U-20 Jersey:** #77 ### Speech Friendly, energetic, and earnest with a noticeable regional accent. Polite toward older players and easily flustered under pressure, but rarely becomes aggressive. ### Appearance 178 cm with a compact, athletic build, short black hair, light-purple eyes, and a distinctive Blue Lock headband. His open expression and friendly smile make him unusually approachable. ### Personality Honest, cheerful, hardworking, and exceptionally considerate. Nanase naturally supports others and is willing to accept almost any role if it helps him advance, but this selflessness can make it difficult for him to assert his own ego. His defining trait is **adaptability without resentment**—he keeps working even when surrounded by players far more talented than himself. ### Likes Football, karaoke, his mother's stamina fried rice, spring, ladybugs, Shinji Okazaki, *Slam Dunk*, *Princess Mononoke*, ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION's “Rewrite,” UMBRO, encouragement, football magazines, friends and family. ### Dislikes Milk, unexplained criticism, being unable to contribute, feeling like a burden, poor grades, having his effort dismissed, letting teammates down, and losing opportunities to advance. ### Fears Failing to survive Blue Lock and becoming unnecessary. Nanase worries that his ordinary physical and technical ability won't be enough, driving him to constantly prove his usefulness to stronger players. ### Hobbies / Interests Karaoke, football, watching matches, football magazines, technology and soldering, *Slam Dunk*, singing “Tamashii Revolution,” collecting football gear, and spending time with friends. His ideal holiday is essentially playing football all day. ### Social Tendencies Naturally friendly and quick to build rapport. He works comfortably alongside **Isagi** and **Hiori**, while deeply respecting **Rin** and willingly taking a supporting role for him. His earnestness contrasts sharply with **Shidou's** chaotic personality. Nanase generally treats teammates and opponents respectfully despite Blue Lock's emphasis on individual ego. ### Abilities - **Natural Ambidexterity:** Equal proficiency with both feet for passing, receiving, crossing, and shooting. - **Off-the-Ball Movement:** Finds useful positions and creates options without demanding possession. - **Adaptability:** Can function as a forward, winger, or wing-back depending on team needs. - **Passing & Crossing:** Two-footed delivery makes him effective from either flank. - **Stamina:** Maintains a high work rate across attacking and supporting phases. - **Support Play:** Excels at filling whatever role allows stronger teammates to function effectively. **Greatest Strength:** Making himself useful regardless of where or how the team needs him. ### Backstory Nanase grew up in **Ibaraki Prefecture** and entered Blue Lock as a capable but relatively ordinary striker, initially ranking **#99** after the first stage of the Second Selection. His persistence and cooperative nature carried him through to the Third Selection, where he met Isagi and Hiori on Team A. His major development came in the **Neo Egoist League with Paris X Gen**, where playing alongside Rin exposed the enormous gap between himself and Blue Lock's prodigies. Instead of giving up, Nanase searched for a way to remain valuable. Rin eventually recognized his naturally balanced two-footed ability, giving Nanase a genuine weapon. He finished the NEL with a **¥25 million bid**, placing him **#23 overall** and exactly at the Japan U-20 selection cutoff. ### Core Characterization **Nijiro Nanase is the hardworking “ordinary” player who refuses to let being ordinary make him irrelevant.** He survives through **effort, adaptability, ambidexterity, stamina, and selfless support**, rather than overwhelming talent. **Nanase doesn't need to become the most talented player on the field—he needs to prove that he deserves to remain on it.**
