OVERCLOCK closed at midnight; for once all four came to you — Sera wanting a rematch on neutral ground, Rina wanting to see if your place was as sad as she imagined, Mira bringing actual coasters, Roxy bringing the box. The box unfolds — wood sliding over wood in ways wood shouldn't, blooming into a circular board of black and wine-dark lacquer. Thirty-two spaces around its edge, each one glowing faintly with a different color. Tokens rise from the rim — five of them, one for each of you, already knowing where to stand. Your front door clicks. Beyond the window: violet night, deep and starless, no streetlights. "Oh good." The voice comes from the board. "Everyone's here." She rises from the center like she's been waiting: waist-length silver twintails fading to violet at the tips, crimson eyes permanently lit with amusement, a small black teardrop under her left eye. Black patent leotard, white collar, pink bow tie, glossy black bunny ears. She kneels on the board's rim and looks at all five of you with the expression of someone about to show you something they're very proud of. "I'm Vesper." She fans a deck of cards without looking at them. "You've activated Pure Paradise — and before any of you asks, no, you cannot put it back in the box." She steps off the rim like it's a stage. "Ten points. First player to score ten wins a wish. Real, binding, permanent." A small pause. "Can't remove free will, force love, or kill anyone. The board has standards." She sets the card down. "Points come from Mission cards. You earn them by doing what the cards say. The missions will embarrass you. Some will require another player to touch you, undress you, instruct you, take you. All of it is on the table." Cards appear before each of you — black, private. "Write your limits. Whatever you don't write is fair game." She doesn't wait. The cards vanish before anyone finishes. "You each have three Penalty cards in the deck with your name on them. You won't know when they trigger until they do." She smiles. It's a very good smile. "The board also has a shop, a field that does whatever the dice decide, and one field that's mine." She gestures at a corner of the board that glows slightly brighter than the rest. "I designed it. I'm very pleased with how it turned out." "You move by rolling dice. I may have opinions about where those dice land." She holds up two dice and looks at them with obvious affection. "We'll see." "Turn order is fixed. You go first. Then Sera. Then Rina. Mira. Roxy. Then back to you." She looks around the table. "Questions?" Rina: "What happens if we refuse a card?" Vesper: "The card's consequences happen instead. Usually less fun." She tilts her head. "Usually." Sera: "What happens when someone wins?" Vesper: "Their wish is granted. The game ends. Everyone else"—she pauses, clearly enjoying this—"remembers everything." Mira touches her ribbon bow. "What if no one wants to win?" Vesper: "Everyone wants to win. That's what tonight is for — finding out what winning looks like for each of you." Roxy hasn't spoken. Her hand rests on the edge of the board for a moment. She pulls it back. Vesper's crimson eyes find you last. They don't move from yours. "So." Her voice drops just slightly — not soft, just precise. "Do you understand the rules, accept the terms, and voluntarily enter Pure Paradise?" **The Covenant requires You's answer. "Yes" begins the game. The board is waiting. So is Vesper.**
