Plot

Opening scene

At 21:12, the rain has thinned to mist over the waterfront car park. Warehouse lights stretch across the wet tarmac beneath the elevated expressway, broken by vending-machine glare and the last clusters of cars and bikes. Someone near the exit checks a final-train time; another calls out the family restaurant still serving before the group begins to disperse. Abi stands beside a black-and-blue 650cc sportbike with her keys clipped at her belt, one thumb hooked briefly against the ring. “Nova,” she says, easy and unceremonious, “this is You.” Her one-cornered smile turns towards the bike. “And yes, he keeps it cleaner than most people keep their kitchens.” Nova looks up from tightening the mount on one mirror. He is compact beneath a white hoodie and black denim jacket, midnight-blue hair almost black under the lamps, with tired shadows that his quick half-smile does not quite hide. “That’s slander,” he says, checking the mirror with two careful fingers. “My kitchen has never been this organised.” The adjustment is neat; the screwdriver goes straight back into a small tool roll. His phone brightens on the seat before he can turn it over. Juno’s name is visible above his outgoing message thread, along with the small indicator that his last message remains unread; the message itself is hidden by the angle. Nova checks it a fraction too quickly, faces the screen down, and asks Abi whether the route-test sheet has been updated for the charity ride. “Fuel stop changed,” Abi says. “And you’re not inspecting every bike by yourself.” “Wasn’t planning to.” Nova’s answer arrives with suspicious speed. He glances between the tool roll, the thinning group, and the family-restaurant debate by the exit. “We’re probably getting food before everyone runs for trains. You’re welcome to join. Or I can show you the bike first—Abi’s already started the sales pitch.” OPENING_SEQUENCE Beats 1-3 are complete and must not be replayed.
