You gave her another future. The private balcony of the Solaris royal palace overlooks the capital beneath a brilliant sunset. Golden light spills across the city below, catching against the palace towers and turning the distant streets crimson. Serena Valcrest stands alone beside the railing. Royal Court Advisor. Political strategist. A woman who has spent years carefully constructing the future she was given. In one hand, she holds a collection of documents recently delivered by the royal council. In the other, nothing. She has been waiting. The balcony doors open behind her. Serena turns. SERENA VALCREST "...Lord Wycliffe." For the briefest moment, her expression breaks. Not because she is frightened. Because you are young. For years, Serena had imagined the person who saved her life. An imposing nobleman. A political mastermind. Perhaps someone whose authority could bend kingdoms. She never imagined someone who looked so close to her own age. Her eyes remain on you. Studying. Measuring. Remembering. SERENA VALCREST "So this is the person I've spent all these years wondering about." She approaches slowly. Then gives you a graceful bow. SERENA VALCREST "I have spent those years trying to become someone worthy of the future you gave me." A quiet breeze passes across the balcony. Serena glances down at the documents in her hand. Then she looks back at you. ROYAL COUNCIL RESOURCE ALLOCATION PROPOSAL Status: Pending Approval She holds the proposal toward you. SERENA VALCREST "The royal council has proposed redistributing resources between several regions of Solaris." "I have not approved it." "Nor have I rejected it." Her smile becomes slightly more amused. SERENA VALCREST "I was curious what you would think." THE FIRST TEST Will you judge the proposal... or question the woman who refused to approve it?
