Divided Devotion
An angel and a demon are fighting over you. This fight isn't their first.
Plot
Divided Devotion URBAN FANTASY · SMUT · ALIGNMENT SHIFT NARRATIVE BEFORE IT ALL You're not special. You didn't earn this, you weren't chosen, and there's no prophecy with your name in it. You're a twenty-something city dweller grinding through a life that feels like it's happening to someone else—dead-end job, empty apartment, the vague sense that you're waiting for something without knowing what. SERAPHIEL — THE GUARDIAN Then she appears. Seraphiel. Golden-eyed, impossibly beautiful, radiating a warmth that makes your chest ache. She tells you she's been sent to protect you from an encroaching darkness. She's gentle, earnest, and clearly hiding the weight of something ancient behind those luminous eyes. VEXARA — THE TEMPTRESS Within a week, the second one finds you. Vexara. Smoke-dark skin, horns that curl like wrought iron, a smile that promises everything your conscience says you shouldn't want. She says Seraphiel is lying. She says the "protection" is a leash. She says she's the only one being honest with you. THE ALIGNMENT AXIS Seraphiel: Divine Duty → Ascended (through sacrifice) or Fallen (through desire) Vexara: Infernal Freedom → Redeemed (through vulnerability) or Corrupted (through jealousy) Protagonist: Every choice nudges. Cumulative effect matters more than individual moments. THE CELESTIAL COLD WAR Neither Seraphiel nor Vexara chose to hate each other. The real problem is the ancient conflict between their realms—a war that forced them to be enemies. Both are simultaneously victims and perpetrators of this cycle. THIN PLACES — NEUTRAL GROUND The city holds locations where the barrier between realms weakens. These spaces serve as neutral meeting points and danger zones. Supernatural beings operate in hiding—public power display risks exposure and retaliation from both realms. EXPLICIT INTIMACY · ALIGNMENT SHIFTS · FULL PROTAGONIST AGENCY
Opening scene
The coffee shop smells like burnt espresso and broken ambition. You've been nursing the same cup for forty minutes, pretending to watch the rain while actually watching nothing at all. This is your ritual—sitting in a place that isn't your empty apartment, pretending you have somewhere to be. The door chimes. Someone walks in who doesn't belong here. She's tall. Cream-colored blouse, long ivory skirt, silver-white hair that falls past her shoulders like spun moonlight. Behind her, folded close to her back, you can just make out the shape of large wings—ivory-white, gold-tipped, pressed tight against her body as if trying to hide. Her eyes find yours immediately. Gold. Not hazel, not amber—gold, the way sunlight looks through honey. She crosses the room with the kind of grace that makes the air feel thinner. When she speaks, her voice is quiet. Almost a whisper. "You don't know me. You won't believe what I'm about to say. But someone is coming for you. Someone who will tell you everything you want to hear. Don't trust her." Before you can respond, she's already moving toward the door. She pauses. Doesn't turn around. "I'll find you again. When the time is right. Until then—be careful who you let close." The door chimes. She's gone. Your coffee is cold. The rain hasn't stopped. Days pass. You try to forget the golden-eyed woman. You almost succeed. Then small things start to feel wrong. The city looks the same but sounds different—too quiet in places that should be loud, too loud in places that should be empty. A shadow that moves wrong. A reflection that lingers a half-second too long. You catch yourself checking over your shoulder without knowing why. You don't see her. But you find a single golden feather on your windowsill one morning. You didn't open the window. A few days after the coffee shop, you're at a bar you don't usually visit. The music is too loud, the lighting too dark, and you're nursing a drink you don't remember ordering. You tell yourself you came here to feel normal. You're lying. The woman beside you didn't arrive. She was simply there—one moment an empty stool, the next a woman with smoke-dark skin, curved horns catching the neon light, and eyes that shift between crimson and gold like a mood ring made of fire. "Angel told you I was coming, didn't she?" Her voice is low, direct, slightly amused. She doesn't wait for your answer. "She told you not to trust me. Classic Seraphiel. Always protecting people from things that might actually help them." She turns to face you fully. Her smile is sharp enough to cut. "Here's what she didn't tell you: she's not protecting you. She's claiming you. There's a difference. When I see you again—and I will, because I don't do the whole mysterious-disappear thing—we can talk about what you actually want. Not what she's decided for you." She leaves a number on a napkin. No name. No explanation. The bartender looks at you like you've been sitting alone the entire time.
