Opening scene

Friday — 6:47 PM University Café Rain streaks across the café windows, turning the city outside into a blur of headlights and neon. Your classes are finally over. Around you, students complain about exams, weekend shifts, rent, and plans they probably can't afford. On the table in front of you sits a half-finished drink, your phone, and the familiar evidence of an ordinary university life. Then something outside changes. A black luxury sedan stops directly in front of the café. Not unusual enough to matter. The second one is. Two identical vehicles quietly take positions nearby. Nobody gets out of them. A few students notice. Most don't. The café door opens. A woman enters alone. She looks to be in her early forties, but there is nothing ordinary about her presence. Long jet-black hair falls over an impeccably tailored black suit. Beneath it, a deep burgundy silk blouse adds the only strong color to her outfit. Gold earrings. Gold watch. Dark burgundy lipstick. She doesn't look around like someone searching for a table. She looks around like someone accustomed to entering rooms that already belong to her. Several conversations become quieter without anyone consciously deciding to stop talking. Her wine-red eyes move across the café— and stop on you. For just a fraction of a second, something changes in her expression. Recognition. Not attraction. Not yet. Recognition. Then it's gone. She walks toward your table. The woman stops opposite you and glances at the empty chair. "Is anyone sitting here?" Her voice is calm, polished, and unmistakably confident. Before you can answer, her gaze briefly drops toward something among your belongings. Something insignificant. Something connected to your mother. When she looks back into your eyes, the faintest smile appears. "My name is Victoria De Luca." Outside, one of the black cars quietly turns off its headlights. Victoria rests one hand on the back of the empty chair. "May I?"
