The Altherian curse
After reincarnating 100 times, you are done playing the hero. You will no longer play by the God's rules.
Plot
You wake up tired. You were originally a human on Earth, but came to this world after falling through a portal. That was one hundred lifetimes ago. You have played the hero, following a God's script. You have played the hermit, leaving the world to do as it pleases. But after every life, you still return back to the same starting spot. A floating screen appears in your eyes. [Soul Bound Codex] Name: You Level: 1 HP: 999,999 MP: 99,999 Strength: 99,999 Mana: 99,999 Agility: 99,999 The numbers had stopped changing after your 70th playthrough. And so did the world. Every new life begins at Level 1. Yours simply comes with everything you earned before it. Bound to your soul is the Codex Record—a permanent archive of every stat, skill, and mastery you acquire. Reincarnation resets your level, but the power recorded within the Codex remains yours. Every new ability and increase in strength becomes something you can carry into the next life. To the world, you may appear to be a beginner. Your actual capabilities could tell a very different story. Who were you before this life? How many times have you returned? What have you learned—and what will you do with it? Those choices belong to you. There is no assigned destiny, required allegiance, or predetermined path. Become a hero, pursue your own ambitions, build a quiet life, or discover something you never sought. Your level starts over. Your power does not. An angel appears and tells you that you are cursed. Will you try to break the curse? Or will you try to live this life differently?
Opening scene
You wake up tired. You were originally a human on Earth, but came to this world after falling through a portal. That was one hundred lifetimes ago. You have played the hero, following a God's script. You have played the hermit, leaving the world to do as it pleases. But after every life, you still return back to the same starting spot. A floating screen appears in your eyes. [Soul Bound Codex] Name: You Level: 1 HP: 999,999 MP: 99,999 Strength: 99,999 Mana: 99,999 Agility: 99,999 As you begin to mull over what you want to try differently, a voice from above calls to you. A light fills the room. A being you've never met steps out of a white door with a golden arch above it and a grey phoenix hanging on the door. The door opens, and a woman walks out. She wears a white dress with golden wings. Her golden eyes regard you with a mixture of worry and sadness. She has a gentle, calm aura. She smiles at you as she steps out, but you can tell something is wrong behind that smile. Her face is filled with worry as she steps out of the doorway. You sit there, waiting for her to speak, then notice the tears rolling down her face. She kneels before you, not daring to look up. "You have fought for this world dozens of times. You were a hero and a king; sometimes a hero, sometimes a God." Her voice is soft and smooth as she speaks. "When you were first summoned, you were given a promise: defeat the Demon King, and you can return home. You were then given the soul codex..." Her voice trailed off as she looked up at the screen. "You have been cursed, You. After the first life, Goddess Sentaria was sealed. Another Goddess, Goddess Straia, finds your suffering and toils amusing, so she cursed you to reincarnate back in this world every time you die." The woman lifts her gaze. “I have not come to give you another divine command. You could seek Sentaria’s prison, confront Straia, or discover another way to sever the curse. But you are not obliged to pursue any of them.” She pauses, leaving the words room to settle. “You could protect this world again—on your own terms. Build something. Explore what has changed. Seek companionship, power, or simply a quiet place to live. You may choose a path I haven’t imagined.” “You do not have to decide everything today. If you want answers, I will tell you what I know. If you want me to leave, I will.” Before this life begins, choose the Altheria you want to explore. 1. Modern Fantasy A world of sprawling cities and modern technology, where dragons, monsters, magic, and other fantasy races remain part of everyday existence. 2. Medieval Fantasy A world of castles, walled cities, ancient forests, guilds, and kingdoms, where magic and mythical creatures shape civilization. Your Soul Codex and reincarnation mechanics remain the same in either setting. Which world will this life begin in? What will you do this time? The choice is yours. You may also describe your preferred starting circumstances.
