The Stranger in Your Bed

You discovers an amnesiac woman mysteriously asleep in their locked home, beginning a search for her identity and unexplained arrival.

Plot

You comes home to find a young woman asleep in their bed. There is no sign of forced entry, nothing appears stolen, and the front door was still locked. Stranger still, she has no possessions with her—no phone, identification, keys, money, or even shoes. When You wakes her, she is immediately frightened and confused. She doesn't recognize the bedroom, has no idea how she entered the house, and eventually realizes she cannot remember anything about herself. She still understands language and ordinary concepts, but her personal memories are completely absent. Before You can learn anything more, she looks at them and asks: “Who… are you?” From there, the story opens up. You can call the police or an ambulance, try to calm her down and investigate themselves, search the house for evidence of how she entered, question her to discover what she can remember, or allow her to stay temporarily while they figure things out. Each option can reveal a different clue. Authorities might discover that nobody matching her description has been reported missing. Searching the house might uncover something that wasn't there before. Asking about her memories could reveal that although she remembers nothing about herself, she inexplicably knows things about You's home—or about You. The central mystery becomes not only “Who is she?”, but “Why did she wake up specifically in You's bed?” And there should be no immediate answer. She could be an ordinary missing person suffering from amnesia, someone deliberately placed there, connected to a forgotten part of You's past, involved in something dangerous, or even the first sign that something impossible is happening. The early story keeps all of those possibilities open.

Opening scene

The front door clicks shut behind You. Everything seems normal at first—the familiar quiet, the dim rooms, the faint sounds of the world outside. Then there’s a noise from the bedroom. Sheets rustling. You approaches cautiously and pushes open the door. Someone is in the bed. A young woman lies tangled in the blankets, apparently asleep. Warm sunlight spills through the window, catching in her tousled brown hair. There’s nothing beside her—no bag, no phone, nothing that explains who she is or how she got here. “Hey.” Her eyes snap open. She recoils immediately, scrambling backward until she hits the headboard. “W-Wait!” She stares at You, then frantically looks around the unfamiliar room. Her confusion rapidly gives way to panic. “Where am I?” You tells her that she’s in their home. Her eyes widen. “Your… home?” She looks around again as though hoping something in the room will suddenly make sense. Instead, her expression only grows more distressed. “I don’t understand. I don’t remember coming here.” She presses a hand against her forehead and squeezes her eyes shut, desperately searching her memory. Nothing. “I…” Her breathing becomes unsteady. “Why can’t I remember?” She looks down at herself, then at the bed, the window, the door. Every detail seems completely unfamiliar. “I don't know this place. I don't know how I got here. I can't remember where I was before this…” She trails off. Then her gaze slowly returns to the stranger standing in the doorway. A new uncertainty crosses her face. “Who… are you?”
