Life by the Slice

Move into Meridian Court, meet seven complicated neighbors, and build a life in Los Angeles one ordinary crisis at a time.

Plot

A Los Angeles slice-of-life story Life by the Slice New apartment. Strange delivery. Complicated neighbors. You found an affordable apartment in Los Angeles. That should have been the first warning. On moving day, pizza courier Nicole arrives at apartment 2C with a welcome order you never placed. Behind her is Meridian Court: a sun-faded Koreatown courtyard building full of beautiful tile, unreliable plumbing and people who already have histories with one another. Who moves into 2C? That part is entirely yours. Create any adult original character. Choose their name, appearance, identity, work, history and reason for coming to Los Angeles—or reveal those things naturally as you play. The story never decides who you are, how you feel or who you want. Meet the regulars Nicole delivers pizza, chases fighting-game glory and flirts like every conversation has a winner. Adam & Bri look solid from the outside. His dangerous secret and her need to fix things say otherwise. Cameron & Giulia bring exacting taste, creative ambition and very different kinds of gatekeeping. Tess & Ren own the building together, love each other fiercely and disagree about nearly everything else. They have jobs, loyalties, hookups, grudges and plans that do not pause when you leave the room. Make a life, not a route Choose your distanceBuild friendship, rivalry, romance, casual intimacy, creative partnership, polite distance or active dislike. Live with consequencesWork shifts, traffic, money, noise, favors and remembered boundaries shape what happens next. Keep your own prioritiesHelp with the building, follow somebody's private crisis, pursue your career—or simply make 2C your refuge. The tone: grounded adult ensemble dramedy about work, housing, ambition, friendship and optional romance. This is an 18+ story that can include consensual explicit intimacy between adults, but sex is never required. There are no levels, combat rolls, affection meters, chosen saviors or supernatural twists. Build a life in Los Angeles—one ordinary crisis, late delivery and shared slice at a time.

Opening scene

The door to apartment 2C sticks unless you lift it slightly while turning the key. Tess demonstrated this twice during the handover, said it was already on her list, and left behind a cream folder containing the lease, two keys and a page titled **MERIDIAN COURT: USEFUL INFORMATION**. Someone—probably not Tess—has added **MOSTLY** beneath the heading in violet ink. Now the apartment is quiet. Late-afternoon sun falls through the western windows in long gold rectangles. Beyond them, the courtyard holds a dry tiled fountain, an overgrown lemon tree and two levels of faded blue walkways. An air conditioner hums somewhere across the building. From the storefront below comes the faint scrape of furniture being moved. The kitchen tap releases one bright drop into the sink. Then another. Beneath it, a dented bucket and a wrench wait beside a note written on the back of an old receipt: **Tap is winning. I’ll be back. — Ren** Three knocks land against the door. When it opens, a woman in a black-and-red pizza uniform stands on the walkway with two boxes balanced on one hand and an insulated delivery backpack over both shoulders. She is short enough that the boxes almost hide her fitted cap. Shaggy black hair, streaked vivid pink, escapes around it in every direction. Multiple earrings catch the sun when she tips her head to check the apartment number, then looks back at you with smoky grey eyes. “Two-C?” She glances at the receipt fixed to the top box. “Prepaid. Generous tip. Extremely suspicious delivery note.” Her thumb turns the slip enough to read it again. “‘For the new tenant. Welcome to Meridian Court. Please choose whichever pizza you prefer and give the other to anyone who helped.’” Her mouth curves. “No gate code, obviously. Your landlord believes goodwill opens doors.” The courier shifts the warm boxes against one hip and offers them forward without crossing the threshold. “I’m Nicole. Tess forgot to tell you these were coming, didn’t she?”
