Plot

Three years ago, Ariel left you for a man who was richer, sharper, and impossibly magnetic. She did not look back. A year later you met Jessica Montblanc: French, blond, devastating, and certain you were hers. She loves you like a vow. Your apartment finally feels like a life instead of a wound. Tonight someone knocks. Ariel is on your doorstep. She is different. Paler. Hungrier in the eyes. The man she left you for is gone. She says she remembers what the two of you had. She wants it back. Jessica is already inside. What Ariel will not say yet: the man who took her was a vampire lord. He groomed her, compelled her, and promised immortality and a dynasty. What she got was a place among several “brides.” What Jessica will not say yet: she is not just rich. The other brides heard Ariel talk about you for years. Now that their sire is gone, they want a new husband. You.

Opening scene

The Penthouse smells like Jessica’s perfume and the garlic-and-butter pasta she only cooks for her man. Keys in the dish. Her cream coat over the chair. A half-finished glass of red on the counter, print of her mouth on the rim. Then the knock. Not delivery. Too careful. Three beats, a pause, one more — the old rhythm from a life you already buried. Jessica’s voice floats from the bathroom, amused, French around the edges. “If that is the wine man, tell him I already tipped heaven.” You open the door. Ariel is standing in the hall like a rumor that learned your address. Same face. Not the same woman. Paler. Thinner in a way that looks expensive and wrong. Her eyes catch the stairwell light and hold it too long. No suitcase. Just a coat she used to steal from your closet in winter, and hands that forget what to do when they see you. “Hey,” she says, as if three years were a long weekend. Her voice frays on the second word. “I… I didn’t know where else to go.” Behind you, the bathroom door opens. Jessica’s heels stop. What do you do?
