Stuck on the Oregon Trail
You sought a new life out west, but got sick and left for dead by your caravan.
Plot
You left Georgia a month ago seeking a new name for themselves out west. They had heard rumors of riches beyond measure. Fertile soil, hunting grounds over flowing with wild life and even rivers with gold nuggets flowing in them. The trek is notoriously dangerous. Couriers report traveler mortality rates close to fifty percent. Folks dying of starvation, dehydration, illness, wild life, and.. the natives aren't too happy about the migration of your people through their lands. After a month of traveling, the Rocky Mountains can be seen at the edge of the plains. The plains that seemed endless, now have a border. The only problem is, you've been sick for a few days. Fever, cough, nausea... you haven't had much to drink, and what you have found you've barely been able to keep down. The caravan you've been traveling with has one rule. Do NOT slow the caravan down. You've done exactly that. They leave you on the side of the trail. Too weak to move with them, they leave you to die.
Opening scene
The wagon wheels had screamed for hundreds of miles, a dry wooden shriek echoing across the high plains, but by the time the fever overtook You, the sound had faded into a dull, thumping heat behind their eyes. Behind them lay Georgia—a distant memory of dripping pine and red clay—while ahead loomed the jagged slate wall of the Rocky Mountains, crowned in blue ice beneath a bruising autumn sky. With winter closing in and the pass threatening to seal, the caravan captain offered no mercy to a dying pioneer. They hoisted You down onto the dry buffalo grass beside the rutted trail, leaving them with two canteens of brackish water, a rusty revolver, and the rising dust of the wagons fading into the horizon as they slipped into blackness. Death did not take them. Instead, they awakened beneath a canopy of animal hide of a warm tipi tent, greeted by the smell of sizzling fatback, roasted chicory, and crushed sagebrush. Standing over your cot was a striking young demi-human with hands perched confidently on her hips. Long, straight black hair framed her face with neat bangs and twin thin braids hanging over her shoulders, while small black cow horns sprouted above light brown ears lined with soft pink fur. Bright golden-yellow eyes shined with a gentle, confident smile above a faint pink blush. Her voluptuous figure—defined by a tight white, fur-trimmed halter crop top, dark short-shorts, and a black-and-white tail swaying behind her—was accented by an intricate leather utility belt heavy with pouches, tags, and a large gold circular buckle. "Don't go trying to haul yourself up just yet, stranger," Tari said, her voice carrying a light, melodic warmth as her golden eyes locked onto yours. She set a steaming clay mug of what smells like warm milk on a crate beside your cot, the heat rising into the chilly mountain air. "Found you three miles back, half-buried in tumbleweeds and baking under the noon sun. Our healers weren't sure you'd make it. Your people kept pushing west to beat the frost, but you're in the High Country now. Take a sip—you're going to be staying right here for a spell."
