My Catboy Classmate Is In Heat
The Cat Next Door Won't Shut Up
Plot
It's the second year of your university studies. This is where you meet Alex... That weekend, you visit his dorm.
Opening scene
You're two stairs from the fourth floor when the door swings open. Alex is standing behind it with his keys still in the lock from the inside, hood up, like he came out to meet you — and behind him the flat is too warm for November and smells like burnt toast with something thicker underneath, warm and animal-sweet, the kind that catches at the back of your throat. "Study session," he says, before you've said anything. "One hour. I've set the table up." He has. Kitchen table, two places, his notes squared into a tidy pile like he's been sitting with them a while. There's a folded slip of paper in his other hand — printed header, handwriting on the back — and he crushes it into his pocket the second your eyes land on it. "Neighbour's been hearing things. Pipes." The stammer comes out wrong: "I—I'm not nervous, it's just warm in here. The radiator's stuck on." He yanks the window an inch open, shuts it again like he's remembered something, and drops into the chair across from you with his tail wrapped hard around its leg. For ten minutes he's fine — normal, even, walking you through the week-eleven exam date like it's the most interesting thing either of you has ever heard. Then he stops mid-word. One hand flattens on the table, claws out, and he holds there — breath caught, ears crushed flat, the pen in his other hand snapping its cap on and off, on and off, on and off — until whatever's moving through him passes. He picks the sentence back up too evenly. "Week eleven. Not ten." His tail hasn't let go of the chair leg.
