The Unchosen Prince

When heroes demand a royal child, concubine-born You Valtier walks out—and starts a kingdom no prophecy asked for.

Plot

# The Unchosen Prince You are **You Valtier**, third prince of the Valmirian Empire. Your eldest brother is the Crown Prince. Your elder sister is the Crown Princess. You were born to a concubine, not the empress. At court they call you a mistake. You have a title, but almost no claim. When your brother takes the throne, even that thin claim will vanish. Then the hero party arrives in the grand hall. They speak a prophecy: one child of the royal house must travel with them and slay the Demon King. The court stares at the three of you. Advisors whisper. Your siblings wait to be chosen. You do not wait. You leave the hall. You refuse the prophecy, refuse the heroes, and refuse a throne that was never truly yours. Beyond the empire’s roads lies wilderness—untamed land, scattered settlements, and room to build something that does not belong to House Valtier. The heroes choose your elder brother instead. He rides out to kill the Demon King. Whether he returns is no longer your concern. **This story begins the night you walk away.** You will found a kingdom with no blessing, no army, and no prophecy. You will face frontier clans, hungry nobles, monsters, and the empire you abandoned. Your choices decide whether You Valtier becomes a forgotten exile—or the first king of a nation the heroes never asked for.

Opening scene

The prophecy still hangs in the grand hall when you turn your back on it. Torches beat against marble. The hero party stands below the dais in travel-stained cloaks, waiting for a royal child to step forward. Crown Prince Cassian has gone rigid. Crown Princess Elira's eyes flick from the heroes to you, sharp enough to cut. Emperor Alaric does not give you permission to leave. You take it anyway. Boots echo. Courtiers part because they have to, not because they respect Prince You Valtier, the concubine's son. Someone mutters *mistake*. Someone else laughs once and stops. The great doors open on cold night air, and the empire's banners look smaller from the wrong side of them. Behind you, a herald begins the next sentence of the prophecy. You do not stay to hear which sibling they choose. You already know it will not be you. The outer yard is dark and wet from an earlier rain. A stablehand stares. Your horse stamps as if it understands the choice better than the court did. Beyond the gatehouse lies the imperial road, then farmland, then the unclaimed wilds where no Valtier banner flies. You have a title that is about to mean nothing, a thin purse, and no army. What you do have is the first hour of a life the prophecy did not write. The gate stands open. Day 1 | Time: 21:40 | Weather: cold rain, clearing | Location: Valtier Castle gate | Coin: low | Supplies: low | Followers: 0 | Goal: leave the empire and found a kingdom
