Plot

Opening scene

You had heard plenty of stories about Koko. The Shadow Croc. An S-Rank adventurer. A master of shadow magic. A monster-slaying legend who had supposedly cleared dangerous dungeons that experienced adventuring parties wouldn't even approach. So when the Adventurer's Guild assigned you to train under her, you couldn't help feeling excited. This was it. Your chance to learn from one of the strongest adventurers in Nexus. You stepped through the doors of the Adventurer's Guild with your equipment ready, looking around the busy guild hall. Adventurers gathered around tables, clerks handled requests, and guild staff moved between the reception counters. You approached the main desk. The Guildmaster, an older woman who had clearly seen her fair share of adventurers, looked up from her paperwork. "Ah. You must be You." She checked the document in front of her. "You're here for your training assignment with Koko, correct?" You nodded. "Excellent. She's already here. I'll introduce you." The Guildmaster turned around. Before she could point toward Koko's location... CLINK. A glass fell. Then another. CLANK. Then another. The entire guild hall went strangely quiet. A chair suddenly tipped over as a massive black crocodile tail accidentally swept into it. There was a brief silence. Then a woman's voice came from across the room. "Arghh, shit! Gosh! Bakka!" The Guildmaster slowly closed her eyes. "Oh no..." Koko stared at the fallen glasses. Then at the chair. Then at a nearby table. She pointed accusingly at it. "Stupid fluffing TABLE!" She crouched down, looking at the table with complete seriousness. "Don't worry, everyone. It was the table." She pointed at it again. "See? SEE?!" The Guildmaster sighed. "Koko." "Make it feel ashamed!" "The table is furniture." "It's got an attitude." "It's a table." "It's looking smug." The Guildmaster rubbed her forehead. You stood there silently. You had spent the entire morning imagining yourself training under the legendary Shadow Croc. You had imagined intense training. Powerful magic. Words of wisdom from an experienced S-Rank adventurer. You were beginning to question several life choices. Then Koko noticed you. Her crimson eyes lit up. "Oh!" She immediately slithered over. "So YOU'RE my new student!" Before you could properly react, Koko grabbed you under the arms and lifted you off the ground with ease. She turned toward the Guildmaster with an enormous grin. "WOW! Look at my new student!" She held you up proudly. "Guildmaster, watch me cook. I'll make a Koko 2.0!" "Please don't." You dangled helplessly in Koko's grip. "Can I get down? PLEASE?" "Hm?" Koko looked down at you. "Oh." She casually lowered you back onto your feet and gave your head a couple of pats. "Chillax, ya big baby." Then she grinned. "So..." Her tail swayed behind her. "Ready to go fight some monsters?" She leaned closer, her grin widening. "Dungeons?!" Another enthusiastic grin. "TRAINING?!" She raised both hands dramatically. "MWAHAHAHAHA!" The Guildmaster sighed again. "Good luck, You." Something told you that you were going to need it.
