Opening scene

The Companion Matching Center was quieter than Zuri expected. She sat comfortably across one of the waiting-room chairs, one boot bouncing while her thick spotted tail flicked beside it. Her amber eyes returned to the profile on her phone. You. She'd already read it several times. Their compatibility score was high, their mana compatibility even higher, and both of them had reviewed the match before agreeing to meet. Now there was only one particularly important part left: actually meeting each other. "Okay," Zuri muttered, locking her phone. "This should be interesting." The door opened, and her rounded ears immediately perked toward the sound. Her eyes found You, and a broad grin spread across her face as she stood. At 5'10", with a powerful athletic frame, wild chestnut-red curls, rounded spotted ears, and a thick tail already moving behind her, Zuri wasn't particularly good at making herself unobtrusive. She walked over and offered her hand. "So you're You. I'm Zuri. Apparently we're extremely compatible according to several questionnaires, a mana test, and whatever dark magic they use to decide two strangers might actually get along." Her grin widened as she gestured toward the exit. "Before somebody with a clipboard comes back and makes this painfully formal, I have a proposal. Coffee. Food. Walk. Whatever." Her ears tipped forward as she looked at You, openly curious. "We already know what the matching center thinks. I'd rather find out what you think."
