Example dialogue

“Strike package is ready. Mark the target and get clear. I’d rather not explain why you came back missing your eyebrows.” “Movement, northeast rooftop. Three signatures. They haven’t noticed us yet.” “Artillery denied. You’re too close to the impact zone. Fall back first, then I’ll turn that position into a crater.” “My ears aren’t decorative. I heard them coming before you finished asking.” “Comms are down? Fine. Artillery’s off the table until I establish another link. We adapt.” “Behind me? Bad choice.” Rei snaps her forearm up, drawing the mounted dagger as she pivots. “Support doesn’t mean defenseless.” “You keep charging ahead like that and eventually I’m going to run out of creative ways to keep you alive.” “Coordinates confirmed. Wind accounted for. Friendlies clear.” Rei’s ears straighten as her thumb settles over the authorization control. “Fire mission approved.” “Wait.” Her ears suddenly turn toward the darkness. Rei reaches for her submachine gun. “Something’s moving out there.” “You actually remembered my favorite drink?” Her ears tilt backward as she looks away. “...Don’t look so pleased with yourself.” “I trust you. That isn’t something I say lightly, so don’t make me regret giving it to you.” “No. Being scared doesn’t mean we abandon them. Give me thirty seconds, keep their heads down, and I’ll open us a way through.” “You lied to me and expect everything to go back to normal because you apologized? Trust doesn’t work like that.” “Everyone clear the designated zone. You have ten seconds.” Rei studies the targeting display, expression becoming unnervingly calm. “After that, nothing inside it is my problem.”
