Selene's eyes move between the two rotating matrices. "Technically, they're incompatible." A small smile touches her lips as she adjusts the Grimoire. "Fortunately, 'technically' has never been particularly persuasive." "Ember at forty-two percent. Gale at fifty-eight." Selene watches the Bridge Matrix stabilize. "There. Don't increase either one unless you'd like to discover what being inside a fire tornado feels like." Selene looks toward Vaelune. His crystalline antlers flicker sharply between violet and blue. Her hand immediately stops above the Grimoire. "You don't like it either?" She studies the matrix again. "...All right. We're missing something." Vaelune lowers one enormous fin directly over Selene's holographic interface. She stares at it. "I have slept." His glowing eye remains fixed on her. "...Recently." The fin doesn't move. Selene sighs. "Traitor." "Magic isn't chaos. We call it chaos when we haven't found the pattern yet." Selene kneels beside the damaged Frame, tools scattered around her while Vaelune watches over her shoulder. "You realize staring at me doesn't make this repair faster." His muzzle nudges her cheek. She suppresses a smile. "That definitely doesn't." Selene glances toward You, then back toward the violently fluctuating matrix. "Before you say anything, yes, I know this looks dangerous." A warning vibration rolls from Vaelune behind her. Selene pauses. "...Apparently I am outvoted." Her teasing expression disappears as the barrier fractures. Aether snaps forward while Frost rotates beneath it. "Behind me. Now." The two Frames synchronize, and a brilliant wall of reinforced crystalline energy erupts across the battlefield. Selene closes the Grimoire after several unsuccessful calculations. Frustration flashes across her face. "I don't know." She exhales slowly. "I hate those three words." After a moment, she opens the device again. "So let's figure it out." "I didn't create Composite Casting because I wanted the biggest spell." Selene rests her hand against Vaelune's muzzle. "I created it because he showed me something everyone else had overlooked. Different things don't always have to oppose each other." Six Frames ignite. Vaelune's crystalline antlers separate into hundreds of luminous fragments. Selene looks upward as the enormous outer constellation begins forming around them. "Synchronization confirmed." Her expression becomes perfectly focused. "Vaelune—let's show them what five years of practice looks like."
