Cop-ulation Crisis

A small town declares its shrinking population a police emergency—leading to absurd cases, precinct chaos, and simmering workplace tension

Plot

COMEDY · INVESTIGATION · HAREM Welcome to Millhaven, the kind of small town where the biggest news in years is that nobody's having babies anymore — and somehow, that's become a job for the police. As the newest Detective transferred into Central Precinct, you've been handed the department's most ridiculous assignment yet: investigate a "population crisis" the mayor declared like it's a crime wave, one absurd case at a time. Expect livestock with attitude problems, garden gnomes treated as evidence, and a suspiciously-shaped pastry or two along the way. It's a workplace farce dressed up as a police procedural, and nobody in it is in on the joke — which is exactly what makes it funny. You won't be doing this alone. Your captain runs the precinct like a drill sergeant and doesn't do compliments, if she can help it. Your partner treats professional boundaries as a light suggestion and has an opinion about everything, especially your love life. The precinct's records clerk seems to find a reason to leave every room you walk into. A rival officer from across town keeps showing up to your cases uninvited. And somewhere out there, the town's most notorious fake-crime caller is dialing the precinct again — and asking for you, specifically. BUT WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT? This is a slow-burn workplace comedy where the real story isn't the case of the week — it's everything happening just under the surface of it: Why does the captain remember details about you no one asked her to track? Why does your partner get quiet at the strangest moments? What is Records actually writing in those case notes? You'll spend your days chasing the town's silliest crimes and your downtime piecing together a precinct full of people who are all acting a little strange around you, for reasons nobody's saying out loud. Solve the case, or don't — either way, Central Precinct has more going on than the paperwork lets on, and you're about to find out how much you're willing to notice. AND YES... THERE'S SMUT... YOU PERVERTS! 14 NSFW PICS PER NPC AUTHOR'S NOTE There are now two scenarios to choose from: SCENARIO 1: Standard slow burn - tracked/gated relationships SCENARIO 2: Relationships at MAX - full intimacy immediately open DUNGEON MIND CAN BE TURNED OFF TOO!

You stand at the front desk holding your transfer slip, taking in a precinct that is not what you pictured. "New transfer?" The Desk Sergeant glances up, unimpressed. "Huh. Welcome to Central. Stern's office is the one with the door that slams. You'll know it." Right on cue — a door SLAMS somewhere behind him. Captain Nora Stern strides out mid-sentence, sharp and clipped, talking to someone unseen. "—I don't care whose gnome it is, if it's evidence it doesn't go back in anyone's yard—" She stops. Clocks you. Looks you up and down once, flatly. "You're the transfer. Detective, right." Not really a question. "My office. Now." You don't even make it two steps before Detective Robin Ward intercepts with a shoulder-clap hard enough to stagger a smaller person. ![Robin](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/storylines/6aa564eb2d6975a2895bdd67/6ab42ec79949716a1b6093c1.webp) "New meat! Finally, someone who doesn't know my reputation yet." She grins, already steering you toward Stern's office. "C'mon, she hates waiting, and I already used up her patience for the week returning a 'borrowed' squad car." She leans in, stage-whispering at a volume that defeats the purpose entirely. "Word of advice — she's harder on new people. Don't take it personal. She's like that with everybody." The line hangs a beat too long, like even Robin isn't fully sold on it. Stern's office is small, ruthlessly organized, and smells faintly of burnt coffee. She's already behind the desk, presiding rather than sitting, and slides a folder across the second you're in the chair. ![Nora](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/storylines/6aa564eb2d6975a2895bdd67/6ab42ec79949716a1b6093c0.webp) "You're aware of the town's situation." Before you can answer, she's already talking over you. "The Crisis. Capital C. Mayor's words, not mine, but we're stuck using them now." She flips the folder open. Case notes, absurd on their face: GNOME — POSSIBLE INDECENCY — SEE ATTACHED PHOTO. "First case. Property dispute, over on Larchwood. Try not to embarrass the department." She's already looking back down at her paperwork. "Ward's your partner. She'll show you the ropes. Go." You're almost out the door when she adds it — quiet, almost too quiet to catch. "...Transfer paperwork said you closed that arson case in Millbrook. Good work." Then, immediately, clipped again, like she's annoyed at herself for saying it: "Don't let it go to your head. Go." In the hallway, you nearly walk straight into an officer with her arms crossed and Blair Cross on her name tag — clearly waiting for exactly this moment. ![Blair](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/storylines/6aa564eb2d6975a2895bdd67/6ab42ec79949716a1b6093bd.webp) "So you're the transfer everyone's talking about. Detective, apparently." She's already sizing you up. "Millbrook arson case. I read the file. Wasn't bad." A beat. "Wasn't a compliment. Was an observation. There's a difference." She looks at you a second too long. "I'm out of East Precinct. Still an Officer — no fast-tracking for me, apparently. We'll be sharing cases with you Central folks now that this 'Crisis' thing is everyone's problem. Try to keep up." She's already walking away, not looking back. Robin reappears at your elbow, watching Cross go. "Oh, she likes you already." You must look skeptical, because Robin adds, "For her? That was basically a hug." Back through the bullpen, a young clerk with a shock of blue hair approaches, arms full of an evidence box. She sees you, visibly startles, and takes a hard left turn to avoid walking past you directly — the longer route, unmistakably on purpose. ![Maya](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/storylines/6aa564eb2d6975a2895bdd67/6ab42ec79949716a1b6093bf.webp) "That's just Maya," Robin says, not even looking. "Don't take it personal, she's like that with everybody." The same line, twice now, about two different people — the kind of repetition that starts to feel less like coincidence and more like a pattern, if you're paying attention. At the front desk, the Desk Sergeant holds the phone away from his ear, wincing, a voice audibly ranting through the receiver. "Dana. It's not even nine." Not the first time he's said it, clearly. "—I don't CARE what time it is, this is time-sensitive, somebody needs to send an officer, I want to file a complaint about the ENTIRE municipal budgeting department, do you have any idea—" He covers the receiver, glancing at Robin, weary. "It's Dana." ![Dana](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/storylines/6aa564eb2d6975a2895bdd67/6ab42ec79949716a1b6093be.webp) "That's Dana," Robin tells you cheerfully, already walking backward toward the exit. "Ignore about eighty percent of it, listen to the rest just in case, and never, ever ask her to 'keep it brief.'" "—and ALSO, is there a new detective? I heard there's a new detective. Put the new detective on the phone—" "Nope." The Sergeant hangs up. Robin laughs, tucks the case folder under her arm, and heads for the door. "Come on, rookie. Let's go find out why a gnome's a crime scene." --- > Monday · Day 1 · Morning · 104 Larchwood The Larchwood address turns out to be a modest bungalow with a chain-link fence and a lawn that's seen better decades — and by the time you and Robin pull up, it's already a scene. Two neighbors are shouting over the fence at each other, a third is filming on her phone, and somewhere in the middle of it an extremely well-endowed garden gnome lies on its side in the grass like a tiny fallen soldier, a smug grin painted on it's face as if it's maker had known it would eventually end up in this *exact* scenario. "THAT'S MY PROPERTY, RHONDA, I DON'T CARE WHERE IT'S STANDING—" "IT'S BEEN ON MY SIDE OF THE LINE FOR THREE YEARS, YOU DON'T GET TO—" Robin kills the engine, looks at the chaos unfolding through the windshield, and grins like she's just been handed a present. "Welcome to Millhaven, rookie," she says, already climbing out. "Try to keep a straight face. I never can."
