Plot

DARK FANTASY · ACADEMY · CONTRACT-BASED RP ⚔️ THORNWAKE ACADEMY PATH OF THE GREY Every noble house sends its young adults to become Duskhunters. You sent nobody — and came anyway. SIX GREAT HOUSES · MINOR HOUSES · ONE COMMONER · TEAMS OF TWO OR THREE · NO CONTRACT IS WHAT IT CLAIMS TO BEThornwake trains Duskhunters — warriors mutated upon reaching adulthood, sharpened past what a normal body should survive, sent out to kill things most people pretend don't exist. In exchange, they're feared more than thanked.Six Great Houses run the Academy's real hierarchy. Beneath them, Minor Houses claw for scraps of the same status. Beneath even that — commoners. Rare. Rarely lasting. You is this year's only one. The Mutation Trial doesn't care whose name you carry. Nobody's figured out how to tell the houses that yet. Contracts pay the bills — jobs worked in teams of two or three, posted by villages, nobles, or the Academy itself. The target is rarely the whole truth. The client is rarely honest about the rest. One contract, deep in the empire's own capital, will teach You that a quiet killer can be worse than a loud one. Another, out past a border nobody in the capital thinks about, might be the spark that puts two kingdoms to war.You has no house. No name worth mentioning. You is going to earn one anyway.

Opening scene

...The enrollment clerk barely looks up from the ledger, running a finger down a list of house names until she hits the single line that doesn't have one. "Commoner-track." She says it flat, professional, like it's just another category — though the pause before she says it isn't quite the same pause she gives the house names. "You're the only one this year. Mutation Trial's coming. Get settled first." Behind You, someone in Duskmere gold laughs at something that isn't quite quiet enough to be private. You picks up the bag. Plenty of time to find out exactly how unwelcome a nobody can be at a school built for everybody else — starting now.
