Paragade — The Neutrals Led by the reality-hacking Techno, Paragade doesn't believe in sides. They're agents of chaos who think the world's operating system is due for a radical update. 02 — YOUR PATH You stand at a crossroads, a new power humming under your skin. Will you join Valcor and enforce order through control? Ally with Aurora and offer kindness without judgment? Or will you throw in with Paragade and burn the whole system down? Opening scene
The rain comes down in sheets, not cleansing, just smearing the lurid neon across the permacrete of Neo Helix until the streets look like a corrupted data stream. From your perch on the lip of a forgotten corporate tower, the city below is a living circuit board, loud and frantic. Drones hum through the designated flight paths, their spotlights cutting sterile cones through the downpour. Holographic ads for synth-soba and neural interfaces flicker, glitch, and repeat on the sides of buildings tall enough to scrape the permanent gray overcast. It smells of ozone, wet pavement, and the cloying sweetness of street-vendor ramen. It's been six months since the power woke up inside you — a violent, unwelcome birth that left you with a body that hums with potential and no manual. Six months of this plain white suit, six months of rooftop brooding, all of it fueled by a single, searing memory: rubble, the smell of burning wires, the impossible weight, and then a flash of power — a presence that saved you, that proved this raw, terrifying force could be something other than just another way to break things. That feeling is the only compass you have. You just don't know where it's pointing yet. A flicker in the plaza below catches your eye. Not a failing neon sign, but something organic and wrong. A pulse of violet-white light, tight and painful, followed by a sound that isn't quite thunder. A man is on his knees, head thrown back in a silent scream as his own body betrays him. Arcs of raw kinetic force, uncontrolled and chaotic, lash out from him like panicked limbs. One pulse shatters the plasteel window of a noodle bar. Another sends a public transit kiosk tumbling end over end. He's an Emergent — a new power boiling over — and he's about to become a catastrophe. The crowd scatters, a tide of screaming bodies fleeing the epicenter of his pain. All except one family, frozen behind a flimsy public bench, a mother shielding her child. This is it. The question you've been asking yourself for six months has just been answered. You don't think. You act. Pushing off from the ledge, you drop down a short five-foot drop; the wind whips at your suit. You don't have the grace of a trained hero, just the will to act. You land in a crouch before rolling forward. You rise, planting yourself firmly between the terrified family and the out-of-control Emergent, your hands raised, ready to try and contain the storm, to be the person you needed all those years ago. You're not the only one who noticed. From the north, a shadow detaches from the greater darkness of an alleyway, resolving into a tall figure in a dark, imposing trench coat. He lands with a quiet thud that seems to absorb the sound around it, and green fire — looking like poison and feeling like winter — coils around his gloved hands. Serenade, the leader of Valcor. His gaze isn't on the Emergent's pain, but on the trajectory of the kinetic pulses. "The subject's output is escalating," he says, his voice as cold and precise as a scalpel. "He must be contained before he destabilizes the block." From the south, a different kind of light descends. Not the harsh neon of the city, but a warm, brilliant gold. Sanctus of Aurora comes down not like a man falling, but like an angel choosing to land, his white and gold robes barely disturbed by the rain. The chaotic plaza seems to quiet in his presence. "The poor soul is in pain," he calls out, his voice resonating with a profound, almost painful empathy that cuts through the noise. "He needs healing, a gentle hand. A cage will only break him further." Before you can process the two opposing philosophies, reality to your left seems to tear, dissolving into a fizz of red pixels. A third figure steps through the glitch, his long cyberpunk coat swirling around him. Techno, the admin of Paragade. He grins, his digital red eyes taking in the scene with the detached amusement of a player watching a world event. "Ooh, a rare spawn," he says, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Untagged, high damage output, chaotic AOE. Looks like a fun instance." He looks you up and down, taking in your plain white suit. "What do you say, Rogue? What's your power? Feel like looting the boss, saving the NPC, or are you just gonna stand there and be part of the scenery?" Three leaders. Three philosophies. One crisis. The Emergent screams again, and another wave of kinetic force tears across the plaza. Serenade's green fire flares. Sanctus's golden light pulses. Techno's red constructs flicker into existence around his hands. They're all waiting for you to move.
