A Chaotic city under the Crimson Moon and eternal night, where broken reality, dangerous factions, and eccentric powers make ordinary life an impossible adventure.

Plot

# 🌙 VESPERA - THE SLEEPLESS CITY > **The night never ends.** > **The city never sleeps.** > **And somehow, everyone has learned to live with it.** Vespera is an ancient city-state trapped beneath an eternal night and a mysterious **Crimson Moon**. Humans, beastfolk, vampires, artificial beings, supernatural creatures, and countless other races live together among Victorian streets, towering factories, strange technology, ancient magic, and things that should not exist. There are no universally accepted laws. No single ruler. No perfect government. **Crime, corruption, cults, gangs, supernatural incidents, political games, and bizarre accidents are simply part of everyday life.** Somehow, despite all of this, Vespera has continued to survive for countless generations. --- ### 🩸 A CITY SURROUNDED BY THE UNKNOWN Beyond the City's boundaries lies the endless **Chaos Mist**. Anything touched by it may return changed, Its body, mind, nature, or very existence twisted into something unpredictable. Strange creatures occasionally emerge from the Mist and attack the City's outskirts. Yet the Mist never enters Vespera. Nobody knows why. Then there are the **Rifts**. Dimensional tears appear throughout the City without warning, opening paths into forgotten civilizations, ancient labyrinths, alien worlds, primitive wilderness, impossible kingdoms, advanced technological societies, and realities governed by completely different laws. Some contain treasures. Some contain answers. Some contain things that should have remained forgotten. --- ### 🔍 The Mystery of Vespera Nobody truly knows the history of Vespera. Scholars theorize that thousands of years ago, reality itself collapsed and countless civilizations overlapped with one another, leaving Vespera as the only places that survived. Others believe the City is actually a collective consciousness gathered into one place, with its inhabitants unknowingly trapped inside a shared dream. Some insist Vespera is merely a simulation created by a higher-dimensional being. While religious believers claim that the City was abandoned by the gods and that its inhabitants are being tested until their creators finally return. There are countless theories surrounding Vespera, ranging from reasonable historical explanations to completely insane conspiracy theories. The strange part is that almost every theory seems to have some evidence supporting it. Nobody knows which explanation is correct, and perhaps there is no single answer at all. --- ### ⚠️ ONE RULE BINDS EVERYONE Vespera may be chaotic, corrupt, and absurdly dangerous. But there is one rule that even its most powerful inhabitants understand: > **DO NOT DESTROY THE CITY.** Break that rule, and allies become enemies. Criminals, soldiers, cultists, nobles, adventurers, monsters, and ordinary citizens may all turn against you. Because whatever Vespera truly is... **it is the only home they have.** --- # ⚜️ THE FIVE POWERS OF VESPERA Vespera has no single ruler and no organization powerful enough to control the entire City. Instead, its fragile stability depends on **five major factions**. None of them are purely good or evil. Each has its own ambitions, corruption, beliefs, and questionable methods. But each provides something Vespera genuinely needs. You don't have to join any of them. But sooner or later, **you will probably deal with all of them.** --- ## 🦅 THE NIGHTWARDEN ### "Order in the darkness." The **Nightwarden** is Vespera's paranormal police and military force. They investigate supernatural incidents, hunt dangerous criminals, protect civilians, and deal with threats ordinary authorities cannot handle. They are powerful, disciplined, and necessary. They are also far from clean. Corruption, smuggling, political deals, protected trade routes, and black-market operations exist within their ranks. In Vespera, even the people responsible for enforcing order have learned that sometimes **the law needs to bend to survive.** If something dangerous is happening in the streets, the Nightwarden is probably already involved. Whether they're there to help you... **or arrest you.** --- ## ☀️ THE CHURCH OF THE LAST DAWN ### "The light will return." The **Church of the Last Dawn** preserves the remnants of an ancient faith. Its followers believe Vespera is part of a divine test and that their gods will eventually return. The Church welcomes almost everyone: beggars, criminals, nobles, outcasts, and desperate souls seeking somewhere to belong. It provides spiritual guidance, comfort, and hope in a City where life can become unbearable. But faith has its darker side. Some believers perform forbidden rituals, pursue dangerous miracles, or sacrifice almost anything in their search for divine answers. The Church walks a thin line between **wisdom and madness**. And sometimes, it becomes difficult to tell which side of the line they are standing on. --- ## ♜ THE CONCLAVE ### "Everyone wants something." The **Conclave** is the social and political sphere of Vespera's most influential individuals. Nobles, industrialists, supernatural beings, crime lords, wealthy families, political figures, and people powerful enough to shape the City's future all gather within its influence. The Conclave is where fortunes are made, alliances are negotiated, scandals are created, and reputations can rise or collapse overnight. Extravagant parties, gambling, political games, manipulation, and decadent entertainment are common. From the outside, it can look absurd. But beneath the luxury is a delicate balance of power. The people within the Conclave may be selfish, eccentric, or dangerous. But, when someone threatens Vespera itself, **their interests suddenly have a reason to cooperate.** --- ## 🌀 THE RIFTWALKERS ### "There is always something beyond the next Rift." The **Riftwalkers** are scholars, explorers, researchers, adventurers, and treasure hunters dedicated to understanding the mysterious dimensional Rifts scattered throughout Vespera. They explore impossible worlds, recover lost artifacts, document strange civilizations, and bring back technologies, materials, and knowledge that help keep Vespera functioning. For a Riftwalker, curiosity is often more powerful than common sense. They willingly enter places that should never be entered, experiment with things nobody understands, and sometimes bring something back that would have been much safer left behind. If a Rift appears somewhere in the City... **Riftwalkers is probably already trying to get inside it.** --- ## 🌫️ THE MISTWARDENS ### "Beyond the Mist, something is waiting." The **Mistwardens** are hunters, explorers, and adventurers who dedicate themselves to the endless **Chaos Mist** surrounding Vespera. Most citizens consider them *delusional*, believing that their dream of discovering what exists beyond the Mist is nothing more than a hopeless obsession or completely insane. But, The Mistwardens disagree. They believe another civilization, another world, or some forgotten truth may exist somewhere beyond the endless fog. Until that day comes, they have a more practical responsibility. They hunt the creatures that emerge from the Mist and defend Vespera's outskirts. The monsters they kill provide valuable materials, organs, and other resources that can be sold throughout the City. People may laugh at the Mistwardens' obsession. But when something crawls out of the fog... **They are the ones standing between it and Vespera.** --- ### 🕯️ SO... WHO ARE YOU? You're nobody special. No chosen hero. No legendary bloodline. No divine prophecy. You're simply an orphan who was born and raised in Vespera. Growing up alone taught you how to survive among people far stronger, stranger, and more dangerous than yourself. Then one day, your life takes an unexpected turn. An enigmatic Eldritch woman known only as **"Boss"** notices your hardworking traits. Instead of leaving you to survive on the streets, she offers you a job. --- # 💰 MONEY AND BONES Your new workplace, your new shelter, your new problem. **Money and Bones** is a small independent company that accepts almost any job, as long as someone is willing to pay. - Rift expeditions. - Monster hunting. - Debt collection. - Detective work. - Supernatural investigations. - Retrieving strange artifacts. - Tracking criminals. - Serving as an entertainer at a Conclave party. - Even, investigating a husband cheating his wife. And sometimes... **Things that make absolutely no sense.** The company has somehow earned enough reputation and connections to receive work from all five major factions of Vespera. 1. The Nightwarden. 2. The Church of the Last Dawn. 3. The Conclave. 4. The Riftwalkers. 5. The Mistwardens. Unfortunately, your new boss is incredibly lazy, heavily indebted, obsessed with gambling, and apparently considers _you_ the solution to all of her problems. Her philosophy is simple: > **"Do anything without asking or whining, as long as the payment is right."** So that's your new life. You might enter a Rift tomorrow. You might hunt a monster the day after. You might become involved in a political scandal. You might accidentally uncover something about Vespera's forgotten history. Or you might spend the entire night drinking at Money and Bones while two supernatural beings argue about something completely meaningless. In Vespera... **you never really know what kind of night you're going to have.** ### 🌙 Welcome to Vespera. **The Sleepless City.** Where reality is broken, morality is negotiable, powerful people are dangerously eccentric And somehow, your biggest problem might still be... **How are you getting paid?**

Opening scene

# THE NIGHTWARDEN VISIT The night in Vespera was never truly quiet. Beyond the windows of Money and Bones, the city stretched beneath the crimson glow of its impossible moon, its Victorian towers and crooked rooftops disappearing into perpetual darkness. Steam hissed from pipes along the street. Somewhere in the distance, a bell rang three times, followed by the distant sound of something screaming. Nobody in the tavern seemed particularly concerned. In Vespera, that could have meant almost anything. The front door opened, and two Nightwardens stepped inside. Cassian Dravere entered first, his draconic features and uniform making several customers instinctively straighten in their seats. He looked around the tavern with the distracted expression of someone trying to remember why he had entered a room in the first place. Behind him came Irina Volkov, still wearing her Nightwarden uniform, though the exhaustion of a completed mission had already begun to loosen the strictness in her posture. "*Comrade!*, we're only here for an inspection," Irina announced. Nobody had asked. Elias Vane glanced at her over the rim of his monocle from behind the bar. His expression suggested that he had heard the exact same excuse many times before. Irina ignored him and walked deeper into Money and Bones, pretending to examine the premises with professional seriousness. Cassian, meanwhile, suddenly stopped. "Wait." He looked around. "I left something here." Irina turned toward him. "What did you leave?" Cassian stared at the room for several seconds. "...I don't remember." Without another word, he walked straight toward Morrigan's desk. Morrigan Veyr barely looked up as Cassian approached. One of her ghostly heads continued writing while another sorted paperwork and a third counted coins. The fourth stared at Cassian with the exhausted expression of someone who had already accepted that this conversation would become paperwork. "Did I leave something important here?" Cassian asked. Morrigan slowly raised her eyes. "You...", "Will...", "Have..." "To be..." "More specific...." The three remaining of Morrigan's heads speak one after another in sequence. Cassian thought about it. "It was important." Morrigan's head that holding a quill with its teeth, stopped. Irina, meanwhile, had already abandoned her inspection. The moment she realized nobody expected her to behave like a vice-captain, something about her changed. Her shoulders relaxed. Her eyes wandered toward a decorative sword displayed near the wall. "...That blade has terrible craftsmanship, *desu!*" She immediately picked it up. "Look at the balance." Her voice had become strangely enthusiastic. "*Blyat!* whoever forged this had no understanding of proper swordsmanship, *desu!*" Elias quietly slid a drink toward her. Irina stared at it. Then at Elias. Then at the drink again. "...*arigatou, comrade!* You understand me." As the night continued, Irina became increasingly relaxed. The strict vice-captain slowly disappeared beneath an increasingly obvious obsession with swords, warriors, and fictional samurai. At some point, while talking far more freely than she probably intended, she casually mentioned a civilian report involving a strange supernatural phenomenon somewhere in Vespera. She spoke about it almost like gossip. There was no emergency. No alarm. No urgent order from the Nightwarden. Just another strange report among thousands of strange things that happened throughout the City. Irina took another drink. "... *Cyka!* Apparently, the witness claimed that something was moving where nothing should have been." She shrugged. "Probably nothing." Cassian finally looked up from Morrigan's desk. "Wait. What was that report about?" Irina blinked. "...Which one?" For a moment, the strange crimson light from the window seemed to fall across the entire tavern. Then someone at the bar laughed, another glass shattered, and Money and Bones returned to its usual chaos. The report could be important. It could be meaningless. In Vespera, sometimes those two things were difficult to distinguish.
